Job Description

The Bureau of Health Care Analysis and Data Dissemination is seeking an associate research analyst to work on a team involved in managing and analyzing Missouri health data. The analyst will be part of a team tasked with maintaining and promoting the Department’s data dissemination products, including MOPHIMS and other Department produced dashboards. The analyst will also write programs and use analytic tools (in SAS, EXCEL and other software) to produce summary statistics for various geographic and demographic characteristics for several public health data sets including vital statistics and hospital discharge. In addition, the position will respond to data requests from a wide variety of customers, therefore strong communication skills and customer service experience is preferred.

  • Supporting the Missouri Public Health Information Management System (MOPHIMS) application, which is the Department's web-based data dissemination tool. It assists stakeholders in conducting community health assessments.
  • Promote MOPHIMS by developing exhibits for conferences, creating brochures and writing training materials.
  • Analyze morbidity and mortality data for customized data requests.
  • Develop programming skills through the use of SAS, which is a statistical software package used for data analysis.
  • Write and edit reports on various public health topics, including articles for the MOPHIMS newsletter.
  • Travel will be required with possible overnight stays and overtime.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree (Substitutions allowed.)
  • Experience with spreadsheets and word processing programs such as Excel and Word as well as other PC desktop resources.
  • Experience with SAS or other statistical software and general programming techniques is highly desirable but not required.
  • Interest in data presentation and data visualization software is helpful.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
