Job Description

Type of Appointment: Full-Time, Management Personnel Plan (MPP II)

Anticipated Hiring Amount: Up to $9,000 per month (Commensurate with qualifications and experience)

Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

THE DEPARTMENT

The mission of the Division of Administrative Affairs is to provide high quality fiscal, human and facility services in support of the university as well as the campus auxiliaries. The Internal Audit is responsible for directing, planning, executing, and administering the external and internal audit functions of the University.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Under the general direction of the Director of Internal Audit, in consultation with auxiliary executive management, the incumbent is accountable for examination and evaluating the operations for campus auxiliaries.
  • Conduct reviews aimed at ensuring that the auxiliary operations are in compliance with established law, policies, plans, and procedures. Provide guidance on best practices as per CSU requirements.
  • Conduct reviews aimed at ensuring that the auxiliary assets are properly and responsibly safeguarded and accounted for and are effectively used in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Analyze and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of the system/areas within the auxiliaries and make recommendations for correction of any unsatisfactory conditions and improvements in operations. Suggest auxiliary with relevant information and best practices to ensure updates are made timely.
  • Assist in the coordination of all auxiliary audits performed by external auditors (e.g., independent CPA firms, the CO, grant agencies, etc.)
  • Monitor any audit/review recommendations and works with auxiliary management to ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Prepare responses as assigned to the CO audit reports. Assist and support auxiliary management on other external audits as required.
  • Consult with and advise auxiliary management and staff on operations and administrative issues.
  • Perform research assignments regarding regulatory and/or compliance issues.
  • Perform special review as assigned.
  • Assist in investigation as needed.
  • Assist the Director to carry out other special assignments as needed.
  • Under the general direction of the Director of Internal Audit, the incumbent is responsible for the planning and development of annual review plan for the campus auxiliaries.
  • Develop and conduct periodic assessment for the campus auxiliaries.
  • Assist in development of a review plan for the auxiliaries based on the result from the risk assessment or the input from auxiliary executive management.
  • Perform preliminary reviews of units to be examined in order to identify factors, characteristics, and controls, which give significance.
  • Determine the scope of the examination and an audit/review program from the data gathered during the preliminary survey.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • A minimum of three years of practical audit or related professional experience.
  • Working knowledge of the theories and principles of auditing, internal audit standards, general administration, and management controls.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work effectively within a culturally diverse campus community.
  • Demonstrated potential to independently perform all phases of an internal audit/review.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree or professional certifications (CPA or CIA)
  • Relevant work experience in higher education environment with sufficient scope and complexity to conclusively demonstrate the ability to handle the work of the position.

CSU Classification Salary Range

The CSU Salary Schedule is located on the following site: https://www.calstate.edu/csu-system/careers/compensation/Pages/salary-schedule-documents.aspx . The classification salary range for this position according to the respective skill level is: minimum $3,750 and maximum $11,703 per month.
