San Bernardino County Fire Protection District , Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) , is recruiting for a
Hazardous Materials Technician II to perform a variety of technical assignments and assist other staff in hazardous waste and materials management, including transportation activities in the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPA) programs and performs other duties as required.
The resulting eligible list will be used to fill vacancies as they occur in both the HHW and CUPA programs.
The current vacancy exists in CUPA. Indicate which program you are applying for in the Supplemental Questionnaire.

Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
Technicians assigned to HHW:Certificate: Must be able to successfully complete other program type training such as forklift and program vehicles operation within twelve (12) weeks from the date of hire.
Certificate: Must be able to successfully complete 24-hour HAZWOPER and 8-hour DOT training classes within six (6) months from the date of hire.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver license, and obtain a Hazardous Materials Endorsement without air brakes restriction within twelve (12) weeks from the date of hire.
Availability: Must be available to work on Saturdays as needed.
Minimum RequirementsMust possess both Education and Experience as follows: Education: Fifteen (15) semester (18 quarter) units of college coursework in biology, chemistry, physics or a closely related field from an accredited college.
---AND--- Program Experience: HHW Program: Two (2) years experience working full-time in an HHW program.
--OR-- CUPA Program: Option A: Two (2) years experience working full-time in a CUPA program.
--OR--Option B: Two (2) years full-time experience performing complex clerical tasks in an office environment, including maintaining a program data base ; experience must be comparable to duties performed by a clerical lead worker in which work is non-routine in nature and requires exercising independent decision making.
Substitution: One (1) additional year of experience may substitute for the required education.
