DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking aPlumber to join its Facilities Maintenance & Development team. The potential candidate will play a key role in the following duties:- Perform skilled journey level plumbing work in installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of plumbing fixtures.
- Repair pipes, fixtures, and open clogged drains.
- Assemble, install, repair valves, fittings, and fixtures of heating/cooling, water, gas and/or drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Repair and install plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, water heaters, and hot water tanks. Process work orders according to sketches, building plans, and blueprints.
- Cut and thread pipe and check for leaks using pipe system, with water and/or air reading pressure gauges.
- Conduct preventive maintenance checkups of the Parks facilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or GED.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of experience in plumbing construction and repair is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS- Requires a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
- May require a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- A current Texas Journey Level Plumber's license is required.
PREFERENCES- Successful applicant must obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of employment.
