Maintenance Mechanic I to join its
Facilities Maintenance & Development/Playground Safety/Day Use team.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES /
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION - This individual will perform routine inspections, and preventive maintenance on playground equipment, skate parks, exercise equipment, soccer goals, basketball courts, tennis nets, and supports.
- Performs manual repairs and duties as assigned. Operates hand tools. Inspects equipment and facilities in Parks and Recreation to ensure cleanliness and safety.
- Maintains records of maintenance and repair work performed.
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays if needed.
- Reports unsafe conditions and unsafe equipment.
- Assists as needed to perform other duties as assigned.
- This position is designated among essential personnel under the City of Houston's Emergency Management Policy.
WORKING CONDITIONS The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS No experience is required.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Must have a valid Texas driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2). May require a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
PREFERENCES **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** GENERAL INFORMATION SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED The selection process will involve application review and/or interview.
