    The Job

    The Department of Public Health, Animal Care Division is seeking an Animal Care Program Coordinator* who under the general direction of the Program Manager and Chief of Animal Care will perform supervisory and administrative work to support Animal Care Division operations. Responsibilities will include developing and implementing project plans for a new pet foster program, ensuring clear objectives, timelines, and resources are defined. Coordinate the entirety of the pilot foster program activities from launch to daily operations, research, and order supplies, review Standard Practices/Manuals/ Presentations, monitor animals progress, and facilitate communication among team members to achieve program goals. Provide regular updates on program status, identifying potential risks and proposing solutions to department leadership. Research and identify grant/award opportunities related to animal care and welfare, prepare, and submit grant applications and ensure compliance with guidelines and deadlines. Recruit, train and onboard Animal Care foster families, collaborate with marketing and communication teams to develop effective outreach strategies, educational programs, and community events, establish new partnerships with local organizations and stakeholders to enhance outreach efforts. Identify opportunities for innovative programs that align with the division's goals and mission. Support with other special projects and initiatives related to Animal Care goals as needed.

    The mission of the San Bernardino County Animal Care is to prevent rabies in humans and pets, to educate the public about responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spaying and neutering, to protect and serve the public and pets by enforcing all laws and ordinances pertaining to animal care, to care for all animals domestic and wild, to reunite lost pets with their owners, to place unwanted pets into new homes, and to maintain a high quality of service.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must meet both of the following education and experience requirements:

    EDUCATION: Thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter units of completed college coursework from an accredited college or university half of which must be upper division, in public health, public/business or health administration; health science; animal science, a nimal husbandry, veterinary medicine or technology, or a closely related field.

    *Note: A list of completed college coursework must be submitted with the application if the candidate does not possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in one (1) of the fields of study listed above. Unofficial transcripts are accepted.

    -AND-

    EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of full-time equivalent professional, administrative experience (e.g. facilitate and monitor program objectives and budget, initiate, develop and write grants, research and data analytics for project needs including overall project evaluation) in a public health program, community health organization, animal care organization or closely related agency. Administrative experience must include program operations.

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate for this position will possess program administration experience. Animal care and welfare experience is preferred.
