    The Job

    This recruitment is only open to current County of San Bernardino, Fire Department, or Special District employees who hold a regular, intern, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee, or Work Experience Program (WEX) position. Former PSE, WEX, or interns are eligible to apply up to 6 months from the end of their assignment.

    The District Attorney’s Office is recruiting for Investigative Technician III to support the Bureau of Investigation. Responsibilities include conducting research, serving subpoenas in the field, assisting with investigations and trial preparation, performing forensic computer examinations, and drafting court orders. This position may also respond to hazmat incidents and death investigations, or manage areas such as evidence handling, fleet and equipment oversight, staff training, and building access/ID card systems. Other duties include identifying individuals for service, locating custodial/non-custodial parents, victims, and witnesses using databases and agency contacts, gathering background information in the field, reviewing criminal histories, and preparing reports, statements, and documentation related to investigations.     CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check prior to appointment.

    Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained.

    Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

    Minimum Requirements

    EDUCATION: Fifteen (15) semester or (23) quarter units of completed college coursework in Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice, Social/Behavioral Science, Business/Public Administration or closely related field. A list of completed college coursework is required unless an applicant has an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a qualifying area.

    --AND--

    EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience providing customer service to the public and to other law enforcement agencies, processing requests for reports, files, evidence, discovery, and lab results, communicating with victims, witnesses, and other governmental agencies, and accessing confidential law enforcement databases.

    SUBSTITUTION: One (1) additional year of qualifying experience may substitute for the required education.
