This is an at-will temporary, part-time position. THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Community Development delivers a wide variety of programs and services to help create and maintain more safe, sustainable, and livable neighborhoods. The department is comprised of five bureaus:
Building and Safety,
Code Enforcement,
Housing and Neighborhood Services, Planning, and
Administrative and Financial Services. Our staff of more than 200 works tirelessly to serve the community through an array of policies and programs, including land use and development, affordable housing, environment and historic preservation, neighborhood improvement, and construction standards and safety. THE POSITION The Department of Community Development is seeking a
part-time Assistant Administrative Analyst I-II -NC to support the Administrative Services Division in the Community Development Department. The division is responsible for all personnel functions in the Department ranging from payroll, recruitment and selection, leave administration, discipline, training and development, and more. The team is a highly supportive and collaborative team that each has focus areas but works together and cross train on the various aspects of personnel management. Under general supervision, the Assistant Administrative Analyst I-II - NC will perform a variety of administrative and analytical duties, including:
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Develop a recruitment resource to support the Department’s staffing goals to reduce vacancies and improve retention.
- Assist development of a methodology for analyzing personnel assignments across the Department’s diverse program areas.
- Compile an inventory of job classifications, including information on position duties, compensation, career paths, and industry benchmarks.
- Research and document historical trends in vacancy and retention rates by classification.
- Identify and evaluate challenges contributing to recruitment and retention difficulties, such as compensation, outreach, and industry labor shortages.
- Calculate and analyze recruitment costs and timelines by classification; compare classified, unclassified, and management recruitments.
- Make actionable recommendations to improve hiring outcomes and reduce vacancy rates.
- Create and maintain a centralized database and recruitment reference guide for use by hiring managers.
- Prepare written reports and presentations summarizing research findings, analyses, and recommendations.
- Collaborate with Human Resources staff, hiring managers, and departmental leadership to gather information and validate findings.
- Present research outcomes and strategic recommendations to leadership and executive team.
- Other administrative duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS TO FILE - Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field OR
- Professional, technical and/or paraprofessional experience (equivalent to an Administrative Aide I-II with the City of Long Beach, or higher) that offers specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
