    The Missouri State Public Defender (MSPD) is an agency dedicated to providing legal representation to individuals who are unable to afford an attorney in criminal cases. We are committed to upholding the constitutional right to counsel and ensuring fair and just legal proceedings for all citizens.

    MSPD is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Operations Assistant to support the daily operations of our Columbia-based office. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a service-oriented environment and enjoys supporting a mission-driven team. You’ll play a critical role in maintaining front office operations, supporting internal departments, and ensuring effective communication and client service.       • Serve as front desk receptionist: greet visitors, answer phones, handle mailroom functions, and maintain a professional office environment

      • Monitor and respond to email inboxes

      • Assist with processing applications for public defender services and determining client eligibility

      • Accept and process client fee payments, prepare bank deposits, and maintain lien & recoupment records

      • Print and mail debt offset notices; monitor L&R database for missing or incorrect information

      • Prepare and ship USPS and UPS mail; maintain addresses in the UPS system

      • Maintain organized and well-stocked mailroom and supply areas

      • Provide administrative support to Human Resources, Financial, and IT departments

      • Assist with scanning, redacting, and releasing client files

      • Transfer and track scheduled collect calls

      • Support updates to MSPD internal documentation systems and databases

      • Assist with basic office facility duties, such as recycling and ensuring common areas are in good order



    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Three years of experience in office or customer service-oriented work

    • Post-secondary education may be substituted for required experience



    Preferred Skills:

      • Strong communication and organizational skills

      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems

      • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

      • Commitment to professionalism and attention to detail



    This is a full-time position based in Columbia.
