    Duties Description

    The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) in the Genesee Region is seeking laborers to assist in the Regional Maintenance Department in the Genesee Region. The candidates will be mainly assisting with painting and roofing work throughout the region. At times, the candidates will assist the skilled trades staff with work. Employment will begin in early May and continue through September 1st.

    Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Assist painters with preparation and painting tasks.
    • Support roofers with roofing materials and labor.
    • Assist carpenters with general construction duties.
    • Perform heavy lifting and material handling.
    • Provide general labor support to skilled trades staff.

    Minimum Qualifications

    No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.

    OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
    • Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor and to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
    • Must be comfortable working from ladders.
    • Experience or familiarity with using hand tools, power tools, and performing/troubleshooting basic tool maintenance.
    • The incumbent will mainly be working with painters/roofers and will be traveling all over the Genesee Region performing work.
    • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather.
    • Must be able to work out of a lift or bucket truck as high as three (3) stories.
