    Description

    This is a multi-divisional classification for use in the Public Works, Recreation and Parks, and Water Resources or other departments. Under general supervision, performs skilled journey-level work in the construction, remodeling, maintenance and repair of City facilities, properties and equipment; prepares basic records and reports; purchases materials and supplies; may lead others in a small crew setting; and performs other work as required.

    Representative Duties

    The following typical tasks and responsibilities are representative of this class. They are descriptive, not limiting. Essential Duties: Performs skilled journey-level work in construction, carpentry, plumbing, welding, fabrication painting, maintenance and repair; Uses pressure washer and airless paint sprayer to remove graffiti; and utilizes computer and scanner to match paint. Performs skilled journey-level work in the inspection, repair, calibration and certification of life safety equipment such as, breathing air compressors and ground ladders; Utilizes computer for regulatory documentation and record keeping; Provides logistical support to fire ground operations; Performs various types of work on Fire Department facilities, apparatus and equipment which may include fabrication, welding, plumbing, remodeling, carpentry, painting, irrigation and electrical maintenance.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Four (4) years experience in appropriate trade or related technical area; OR
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described job duties.
    • Possession of a valid California Class “C” driver’s license. A higher level driver’s license may be required by a division or department when equipment needs dictate. A Class “B” California driver’s license is required for the Water Resources Department.


    Examination (Weighted: 100%)

    An appraisal will be made of the applicant's experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.

    NOTE: Admission to the Examination may be limited to those applicants who demonstrate the best combination of qualifications. Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed admittance to the Examination.
