    This position will be located at the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of Environmental Quality, Kansas City Regional Office, 200 Unity Circle North, Suite 2A, Lee’s Summit, MO 64086 .

    • Conduct inspections, investigations, and compliance assistance visits of wastewater treatment entities, Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs), land disturbance activities, and municipal stormwater programs.
    • Complete inspections in accordance with the Procedures for Assistance, Compliance, Enforcement (PACE) Manual, permit conditions, and State regulations including a complete report of field investigation findings.
    • Conduct sampling during inspections and investigations when necessary, including submitting samples to the Environmental Services Program for analysis with a Chain of Custody form.
    • Schedule and perform daily work without supervision and only routine oversight of work.
    • Make decisions during daily work and inspections and investigations using knowledge of the laws and regulations, and applicable work experience to determine if entities are working properly and in compliance.
    • Provide compliance assistance to permitted facilities in the field or on the telephone and document in SharePoint.
    • Implement policy/rules/laws concerning wastewater and stormwater quality. Possess the ability to explain to the Water Protection Program how or if a policy is working based on field observations and suggest changes in their development.
    • Respond to other duties as assigned, including investigating environmental emergencies in the field such as sanitary sewer overflows, fish kills, or environmental emergencies.
    • Take concern information from the public and investigate concerns related to wastewater and stormwater issues. Complete concern investigation reports, relay information back to concerned parties, and follow up as required.
    • Work collaboratively within the Water Pollution Unit as well as other units and programs.


    To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

    • Environmental Science : Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods to protect and improve the quality of the environment and its resources; and to monitor, control, abate, and prevent pollutants.
    • Interpersonal Skills : Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.


    Equivalent to those typically gained by:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 0-4 years of relevant experience.
