Department of Public Works - Transportation Division is primarily responsible for administering, planning, designing, and maintaining the County Maintained Road System which includes 2,500 miles of roadways. Routine maintenance activities of the Department include patching and crack filling of approximately 7,000 lane miles of asphalt pavement; grading of 421 miles of unpaved roads; shoulder maintenance; plowing snow on approximately 450 miles of mountain roads; and traffic signal maintenance at 50 intersections. Capital improvement program projects of the Department include pavement resurfacing, roadway drainage, sidewalk and pedestrian safety, freeway interchange, railroad grade separation, and bridge replacement.
Transportation Analyst I is the entry level of the series and performs moderately complex planning projects; local and regional transportation analysis; analyzes and recommends transportation measures; coordinates with engineers, planners, and surveyors in developing cost estimates; and acts as a liaison with other departments, local government, regional, state, and federal transportation agencies.

Benefits By Occupation al Uni t: Administrative Services CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Promotion: Transportation Analysts I will serve under trainee conditions and are eligible for promotion to Transportation Analyst II ($76,190.40 - $104,728.00 annually) upon successful completion of a training program and receipt of a satisfactory work performance evaluation. Incumbents must promote within 12 months or be terminated.
Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background investigation, which includes fingerprinting, and a physical exam prior to appointment.
Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance is required at the time of appointment.

Minimum RequirementsEXPERIENCE: Two (2) years full-time equivalent experience of professional level planning, project programming, grant writing, funding administration, or legislative analysis experience.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
Desired QualificationsOne (1) year of experience specific to
transportation is
preferred.
