POSITION OVERVIEW

Workdays & Hours: Varied (Shift work, including rotation, weekends and holidays) subject to change.
PURPOSE OF THE DIVISION
The purpose of the Houston Airports (HAS) General Maintenance Services Division is to effectively deliver self-performed, and contracted, maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Equipment Worker supports the Houston Airport System’s "Opening Day Fresh" initiative by preserving the longevity and aesthetics of airport assets through proactive maintenance. The Maintenance team ensures compliance with FAA FAR Part 139 regulations and TX DOT regulations to maintain the airport’s operating certificate. This position may be assigned duties at all Houston Airport System facilities including IAH, HOU, and EFD.
" Must be able to pass a criminal background check, obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances where required. Candidates must be able to obtain all security required badge access including Custom Border Patrol access within 6 months from the hire date." .
The Equipment Worker duties will include but are not limited to:- Concrete & Surface Maintenance: Mixes, pours, and finishes concrete; prepares and repairs hard surfaces, including setting forms and placing rebar.
- Painting & Markings: Operates various paint machines (Line Lazer, air paint guns, trucks) for pavement and facility markings.
- Equipment & Material Handling: Operates heavy equipment and trucks for material transport and job site preparation.
- General Maintenance: Performs manual tasks such as lawn care, roofing, painting, plumbing, FOD removal, and road/ditch maintenance.
- Vehicle & Equipment Upkeep: Inspects, cleans, and services tools, vehicles, and facilities to ensure operational readiness.
- Safety & Compliance: Follows safety protocols, investigates complaints, and maintains accurate reports and records.
- Leadership: May act as a lead of a crew and coordinate and monitor work assignments and personnel.
The position requires stooping, bending and/or lifting of items of up to 30 pounds with occasional periods of walking on rough surfaces. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Requires the ability to make fairly complex coordinated and sequenced motor movements in response to quickly changing external stimuli.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six months of experience in the operation of plant or automotive equipment and attachments are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
May be required to have a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving based on the type of equipment the individual is assigned to operate.
PREFERENCES
PREFERENCES- Preferences will be given to applicant with the availability to work all shifts, including rotation, weekends and holidays preferred.
- Experience in pavement repairs.
- Experience with implementing Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) - Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 139 a plus.
- Strong communication, able to deal with people in tense situations and works with minimum supervision is a plus.
- Possesses the ability to solve arithmetic and numerical problems is preferred.

This position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
Pay Grade 13

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
