Why you’ll love this position: The curriculum services section provides professional services related to the development and implementation of improved curricula in the schools of the state. The unit engages in a broad range of activities including: the preparation and dissemination of curricular materials; in-service training for professional staff members in curriculum development and in specific subject areas; and consultative assistance in solving instructional problems. Consultants provide services upon request in the areas of citizenship education, health and physical education, fine arts, reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, science and library/media. Particular emphasis is placed on assisting schools in aligning curriculum with the Show-Me Standards and the development of written curriculum guides required by the Missouri School Improvement Program and the Outstanding Schools Act.
- Provide technical assistance to local education agencies regarding the development and implementation of research-based instructional practices in social studies education.
- Create and conduct high-quality professional development opportunities that promote effective instructional and evaluation strategies of social studies education competencies.
- Coordinate the creation and refinement of social studies education standards and curriculum resources.
- Develop various processes / procedure s that effectively educate and support stakeholders with the implementation of state and/or federal mandates relating to science education.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and provide appropriate curricular and assessment resources to various stakeholder groups.
- Collaborate and consult with the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) coordinator to accomplish goals that support the implementation of strategic planning.
- Provide content expertise for the development and implementation of Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) assessments through activities such as item writing, content review, scoring material creation, item/form selection, scoring monitoring, training materials review, assessment manual creation/review, and performance level descriptor drafting.
- Engage in continuous learning of social studies content, curriculum and instructional research and development by monitoring current trends and research.
- Assist educators with interpretation and implementation of Missouri State Board of Education policy requirements pertaining to social studies education.
- Develop and lead new initiatives that enhance social studies education.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Interface Conference
- Conduct other duties and functions as assigned by department leadership.
- Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in education with an emphasis in social studies or closely related field.
OR - Four or more years of experience in a classroom setting with certification or training in social studies, or closely related field.
