    The Deputy Director of the Department of Health and Senior Services is responsible for the successful oversight of assigned operations of the state health agency, managing a variety of programs and services related to public health, senior care, and disability services, advising on policy development, ensuring compliance with regulations, and representing the department at legislative and public hearings, all while prioritizing the health and well-being of the state's residents; key duties include budget management, staff supervision, program evaluation, and collaborating with other state agencies and community partners.

    • Strategic Leadership: Assist with the development and implementation of comprehensive health policies and strategies for the state, aligning with public health priorities and addressing emerging issues. This includes data analysis.
    • Program Oversight: Leadership and oversight of various divisions within the Department of Health and Senior Services.
    • Budget Management: Assist in the development and management of the department's budget, ensuring funds are used effectively across programs and initiatives.
    • Legislative Advocacy: Represent the department as requested during legislative hearings, advocating for policies that support the strategic priorities of the department and promote public health and senior well-being.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with local health departments, healthcare providers, community organizations, other state agencies, and other entities to address public health concerns. Serve as liaison to the Governor’s Office. Public speaking.
    • Staff Supervision: Direct leadership and supervision of a large team of professionals across various divisions, including division leadership, program managers, epidemiologists, inspectors, and administrative staff and others.
    • Compliance and Enforcement: Ensure adherence to federal and state regulations.
    • Organizational Excellence: Support a culture of organizational excellence through continuous quality improvement; responsiveness to the public, regulated entities, stakeholders, associations; implementation of practices which support a healthy work environment.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Strong leadership and communication skills.
    • Extensive experience with leadership and managing complex operations.
    • Ability to oversee multiple priorities simultaneously, and extensive experience with public health policy development and implementation; proven ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders and build collaborations.
    • Knowledge of public health and the healthcare industry is preferred.
    • A bachelor's degree in public health, business, healthcare administration, or a closely related field is required. A terminal degree is preferred.
