    Salary and Benefits

    Salary Range: $5,083.00 per month to $7,228.00 per month. PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $5,083.00 per month to $5,400.00 per month.

    About the Position

    Project Rebound is a CSU-wide student support program designed to assist students with lived experience being formerly incarcerated in accessing and succeeding in higher education. Cal State East Bay's Project Rebound Program is modeled after the original Project Rebound program started by the late Professor John Irwin at San Francisco State in 1967. Project Rebound at Cal State East Bay was started in 2022 and provides wraparound support services to ensure that students who have lived experience being incarcerated can apply, persist, and thrive in their academic, extracurricular, and career endeavors. We offer a safe, supportive, and accessible space where students can find the resources they need to achieve academic success, build leadership skills, secure meaningful employment, and contribute to stronger, safer communities. The Cal State East Bay Project Rebound team consists of a part-time faculty Executive Director, full time Program Coordinator, and several student assistant interns.

    The Outreach Coordinator will serve as the primary point of contact for prospective and current students, playing a key role in recruitment, intake, and resource coordination. The Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting and engaging students, facilitating student intakes and connecting students to academic and community resources, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure student success, expanding awareness of Project Rebound across campus and in the community, and building relationships with faculty, campus departments, and external partners to strengthen student support systems.

    Responsibilities

    Student Outreach & Recruitment:
    • Act as the primary liaison for prospective students who are systems-involved and interested in enrolling at Cal State East Bay.
    • Conduct student intakes, assess academic standing, and evaluate transcripts to support admissions and course planning.
    • Assist prospective students with inquiries about the program and the college application process, including referring and connecting students with campus resources.
    • Organize and conduct informational sessions, workshops, and meetings to engage the campus community and reach the target audience of prospective students to inform them about Project Rebound’s mission and services.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with partner programs at local community colleges.
    • Collaborate with others on campus regarding student advising, support services, academic and professional development resources, events, activities.
    • Develop recruitment and informational materials tailored to diverse community needs; including promotional brochures, flyers, PowerPoint presentations, social media, e-brochures and e-flyers.
    • Aid with the planning and organization of events to raise the profile of Project Rebound.

    Student Support & Advising:
    • Connect students with campus and community resources; including academic advising, financial aid, career services, housing assistance, and mental health support.
    • Assist students with navigating the college application process, enrollment, and class registration.
    • Provide academic guidance and mentorship to students individually and in groups.

    Reporting and Administration:
    • Track and maintain student data, outreach efforts, and engagement metrics to assess program impact and effectiveness.
    • Analyze and evaluate outreach sessions and other recruitment platforms and make recommendations to the Program Director and the Executive Director on strategic approaches.
    • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for successful recruitment efforts based on findings and best practices.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Experience:
    • The equivalent of two (2) years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
    • Experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
    • A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

    Education:
    • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.
    • Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

    Required Qualifications
    • Knowledge of higher education systems, student support services, and the challenges faced by systems-involved individuals.
    • Understanding of reentry processes including knowledge of common challenges faced by returning residents and awareness of available community resources for support.
    • Familiarity with college admissions, financial aid processes, academic support services, and student resources.
    • Knowledge of community organizations, social services, and resources available to support reentry and higher education for formerly incarcerated individuals.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, community partners, and stakeholders.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build relationships across diverse populations.
    • Excellent organizational, recordkeeping, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficient knowledge of Google Drive and experience maintaining and organizing secure, online files.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficiently, effectively, and accurately.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Ability to create a welcoming and supportive environment for students who have been formerly incarcerated.
    • Sensitivity to, respect for, and ability to leverage cultural, socioeconomic, and individual differences.
    • Ability to communicate with the Executive Director, Program Coordinator, and students in matters that require strict confidentiality or are delicate in nature.
    • Must be able to travel to meetings around the local area.
    • Some work may occur in the evening or during the weekend.

    Preferred Skills and Knowledge
    • Lived experience being formerly incarcerated
    • Two (2) years of professional work experience in an academic setting providing reentry support services to students.
    • Familiarity with CSU policies, financial aid processes, and student success initiatives.
    • Experience handling confidential information.
    • Basic understanding of mental health issues, cultural competency, trauma-informed care, and counseling techniques to support individuals with diverse backgrounds.
    • Skills in organizing, planning, and managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to inspire, motivate, and lead students and volunteers in achieving program goals.

    Condition(s) of Employment

    Satisfactory completion of a background check (including LiveScan, as appropriate), that may include, but is not limited to: criminal records check, verification of academic credentials, licenses, certificates, credit history, professional references and/or verification of work history is required for employment. Cal State East Bay will issue a conditional offer of employment to the selected candidate, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Unsatisfactory results may also affect the continued employment of current Cal State East Bay employees who were conditionally offered the position.

    All background checks are conducted through the university's third party vendor, Accurate. LiveScan is conducted through the University Police Department.
