    ***This recruitment is open only to current San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Captains.***



    The Sheriff's Department is accepting applications for Sheriff's Deputy Chiefs who direct and coordinate the activities of a bureau of operating divisions, detention facilities and/or stations. This recruitment will result in a new list of eligible candidates to replace the existing list of candidates.

    Minimum Requirements

    Experience: Applicants must be currently employed in a regular full-time position with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department as a Sheriff's Captain, and have at least one (1) year of experience in said position, as of the filing deadline of March 14, 2025.

    NOTE: On your application, clearly differentiate between Captain experience and prior experience.

    Selection Process

    Examination : There will be a competitive evaluation of promotability based on a departmental review of the applicant's resume, which should highlight competencies, knowledge, skills and abilities in the following areas: Management; Planning; Budget Preparation and Fiscal Monitoring; Policy and Procedure Evaluation and Formulation; Supervision; and Promotion of Community Relations.
