    Title: Housing Court Internship-Administrative Office

    Starting Pay:College students $20.00 an hour

    Graduate students and Law students $24.00 an hour

    Departmental Mission Statement: The Housing Court is a court of limited jurisdiction that adjudicates civil and criminal actions involving claims in law and equity related to the health, safety, or welfare of the occupants and owners of residential property in Massachusetts. The Court hears summary process (eviction), small claims, and civil actions that involve claims for personal injury, property damage, breach of contract, and discrimination. The Housing Court also adjudicates code enforcement actions and appeals of local zoning board decisions affecting residential property. The Housing Court has fifteen justices sitting in six divisions (Eastern, Northeast, Southeast, Metro-South, Western and Central) and conducts sessions in over 20 locations every week. The Housing Court has statewide jurisdiction.

    • This internship also prefers current Graduate school or Law school students.

    Position Summary:The intern, under the supervision and guidance of the Administrative Office of the
    Housing Court, will work on a variety of assignments that will involve the
    administration and development of the Court's business and operations. The intern
    should be able to provide a broad range of skilled and confidential administrative
    support. In addition, the Housing Court Administrative Office may assign the intern
    responsibility for longer term projects. Because the Court has statewide jurisdiction
    and the Administrative Office provides support to the Court's six divisions, the intern
    may be called upon to accompany the Administrative Office staff and travel across
    the Commonwealth if/when the need arises. The intern’s daily duties may include,
    but are not limited to, the following:

    • Utilizing the Housing Court’s case management system and monitoring court metrics
    • Assist in reviewing documentation (correspondence, presentations, memoranda, etc.) to ensure accuracy and completeness
    • Support the office in the management of project schedules and deliverables
    • Assist with the planning and execution of outreach events, conferences, etc.
    • Assist with the office’s daily administrative tasks
    • Provide Suggestions and ideas to the office on process improvements
    • Assist in training and supporting court users based on specific project needs related to assigned work
    • Work with Administrative Office staff to develop detailed project plans to monitor and track Progress
    • Collaborate with all members of the Administrative Office to achieve both short-term and long-term goals
    • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently
    • Any other duties as assigned

    Minimum Requirements: Minimum Requirements: These are the minimum requirements necessary to apply
    for the position:

    • Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree (or Graduate degree, Law degree, etc.)
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and other computer software
    • Ability to analyze and solve problems
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Ability to handle all matters within our office with confidentiality and professionalism
    • Interest in learning more about Housing Court and Housing law
    • Ability to travel to courthouses across the Commonwealth
