    Job Location: This position can be remote and based out of Jefferson City, Columbia, Kansas City or St. Louis, MO. Statewide travel is required to conduct administrative reviews for Residential Child Care Institutes.

    The Food and Nutrition Services Section administers the USDA Food Distribution Program and the following USDA Child Nutrition Programs: National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program, Special Milk Program, and the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. Under the NSLP, the After School Snack Program and Seamless Summer Option are also available. The programs are operated in public, non-public, and residential child care institutions. The goal of the Food and Nutrition Services Section is to providing safe food and technical assistance to ensure well balanced nutritious meals are served to the students of Missouri.

    • Professional work in the implementation of the Child Nutrition Programs and initiatives related to these programs in residential and child care institutions (RCCIs). Programs include, but are not limited to School Breakfast Program, National School Lunch Program, Afterschool Snack Program, Seamless Summer Option, Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, Special Milk Program, and Provisional Programs.
    • Conduct on-site Administrative Reviews (AR) at RCCIs and complete web-based reports resulting from the on-site program reviews.
    • Develop and conduct trainings and presentations.
    • Provide technical assistance to RCCIs for compliance with federal and state rules and regulations. Interpret federal and state rules, regulations, instructions, and guidance.
    • Maintain knowledge of the USDA Local School Wellness Policy regulations and oversee implementation and development of rules for new or revised legislation.
    • Develop and implement practices to monitor Local Wellness Policy (LWP) triennial assessment compliance using data driven from on-site Administrative Reviews and school nutrition program application packets.
    • Use data to evaluate and track triennial assessment compliance and develop technical assistance plans for schools.
    • Coordinate with state and local partners for wellness initiatives.
    • Identify wellness policy deficiencies and develop trainings that strengthen the ability of an LEA to create a school nutrition environment that promotes students' health, well-being, and ability to learn.
    • Collaborate with officials and applicable stakeholders to update policies to reflect current USDA regulations.
    • Provide guidance to schools to maintain a required wellness advisory committee.
    • Develop and identify resources, tools, handouts and initiatives specific to wellness policy compliance and goals.
    • Coordinate in the implementation and tracking of new USDA grant initiatives and recognition awards.
    • Required travel to attend meetings and workshops.
    • Assist with the review and approval of RCCI Child Nutrition application/agreements.
    • Assist with the review and correction of RCCI Child Nutrition Program reports of annual income and expenditures and program balances.
    • Ability to recognize program needs and provide competent and effective assistance to LEAs and food service directors/managers relative to problems of the administration and operation of the Child Nutrition Programs.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Dietetics, or closely related field from an accredited college or university.


    OR

    • Four or more years of progressive experience in Child Nutrition Programs, elementary/secondary education, government, policy, food and nutrition science, health and wellness or closely related experience, and possession of a high school diploma or equivalency.
