Duties Description
Under the supervision of higher-level managers and the park administrative team, the Recreation Complex Manager 1 supervises programs and operations within the Maintenance Department of Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park. The incumbent performs the following duties:
• Identifies community recreational needs and works with the community, school groups, and local government officials to develop and implement programs, schedules, and special events.
• Assigns, schedules, supervises, and evaluates the effectiveness of contractors and of subordinate’s delivery of programs.
• Inspects, evaluates, and assures the readiness and availability of equipment and facilities to meet requirements for scheduled activities.
• Supervises recreation and administrative staff; participates in recruitment and training programs.
• Inspects cleaning and maintenance work; develops and implements cleaning and routine maintenance schedules.
• Prepares, updates, and executes a comprehensive plan of preventative maintenance, maintenance and repair for systems, structures, fixed equipment, and grounds at Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park.
o Coordinates maintenance work to minimize adverse impacts on customer services.
• Plans major repairs and preventative projects in conjunction with the maintenance supervisors.
o Works with higher level management staff and regional capital facilities staff, as directed, to assure that priority needs for maintenance and repair are promptly identified and addressed in a manner which avoids disruption of park operations to the greatest extent feasible.
• Assists higher-level managers to plan and budget for equipment, repairs, and supplies needed to support existing and planned programming and events.
• Orders needed supplies and materials.
• Makes recommendations to higher-level management for policies, procedures, training, and facility improvements to enhance the customer experience and promote customer satisfaction.
• Assures that all Agency, Regional and Park standards for service delivery, customer service, and employee conduct and performance are consistently met.
• Evaluates Park facilities for energy conservation and sustainable operations.
• Sets standards and assigns tasks based on the daily operational needs of the park.
• May also serve as shift supervisor in another complex as needed supervising programs and operations.
• Works closely with volunteers, the community, and vendors to assure NYS Parks’ mission is always met.
• Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Six years of experience, including 1 year of supervisory experience, directing an athletic, sports or recreation facility or program.
OR a bachelor’s degree in any field and two years of the general experience, including one year of supervisory experience.
Substitution- A master’s degree in park administration, recreation, physical education, fine arts, or a closely related field may substitute for one year of the required experience.
*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. If not licensed at the time of appointment, the appointee must obtain a driver’s license without restrictions or conditions within the term of probation.
• This position is 40 hours per week. Weekend, holiday, and evening work is required as operational needs.
• Candidates should be well organized and possess excellent communication skills.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, and Outlook).
• May be required to periodically support the New York City Region’s Park and operational needs, including special assignments at other parks and emergency management tasks, as needed.

DOWNSTATE ADJUSTMENT: $3,400
