SALARY: I $32.08 - $38.98 / Hour
II $35.19 - $42.78 / Hour

THE POSITION: Under close supervision, as a Code Enforcement Officer wearing a badge, performs work of routine difficulty as an entry-level position to secure compliance with zoning regulations and the Municipal Building Codes (including the Uniform Housing Code, Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings, and Property Maintenance Codes). Work involves resolving routine conservation issues within established policy. Incumbents are closely supervised daily by the Chief Code Enforcement Officer and Code Enforcement Officer III. Employees in this class do not have citation authority without supervisor's permission and having obtained a PC832 certificate or equivalent. Performs other work as required.
Representative Duties
Code Enforcement Officer I: As a Code Enforcement Officer wearing a badge, investigates routine complaints, prepares and processes appropriate corrective orders and acts to gain compliance to zoning, housing and Municipal Code violations. Code Enforcement Officer II: In addition to the Code Enforcement Officer I duties, the II position is a skilled, journey-level position with authority to issue citations and handle more difficult and complex cases.

Minimum Qualifications
Applications will be accepted only from those applicants who clearly demonstrate on the COMPLETED application & supplemental questionnaire that they meet the below requirements:- Graduation from an accredited high school or possess a GED; AND
- Successful completion of an acceptable course in Building Codes
- Four (4) years of experience in code enforcement, building construction (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical) at the journey-level, inspection, architecture, design, plan permitting, or related field; OR
- An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties
- Possession of a valid California Class “C” Driver’s License
- Incumbents may be required to possess a PC832 certificate or equivalent and pass a psychological examination
IN ADDITION TO ABOVE, CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER II APPLICANTS MUST HAVE:- One (1) additional year of experience in code enforcement, building construction (electrical, plumbing, carpentry or mechanical) at the journey-level, inspection, architecture, design, plan permitting or related field, including at least two years as a Building Inspector I or Code Enforcement Officer I.

EXAMINATION: ORAL APPRAISAL INTERVIEW (Weighted 100%): (Tentative)
An appraisal will be made of the applicant's experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.

1-4 years of service: 10 days per year.
5-13 years of service: 15 days per year.
14+ years of service: 20 days per year.
VACATION - FIRE SAFETY SHIFT PERSONNEL ONLY:
1-4 years of service: 4.68 (24-hr. duty shifts)
5-15 years of service: 7.02 (24-hr. duty shifts)
16+ years of service: 9.36 (24-hr. duty shifts)
HOLIDAYS: 13 paid holidays per year.
SICK LEAVE: Earned at the rate of one working day per month of service to a maximum of 120 days; portions therafter may be convertible.
ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE: 10 days per year for General Supervisory and Management employees.
