    Salary and Benefits

    PLEASE NOTE: The starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $215,000 per year to $230,000 per year.

    This position is a Management Personnel Plan (MPP) position in the CSU and serves at the pleasure of the President.

    The CSU enjoys a generous benefits program with employer paid life insurance ($100,000), as well as health, dental, and vision insurance with the monthly premium largely paid by the CSU. Additionally, we offer a broad range of other benefits which includes dependent and health care reimbursement accounts, tuition fee waiver, 401k, 457 and 403(b) plans. The CSU belongs to the CalPERS retirement plan in which medical and dental insurance continues in qualified retirement. The CSU has 14 paid holidays, one personal holiday and the position earns 24 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave per year.     This position may be eligible to participate in the Cal State East Bay hybrid telecommute program subject to management approval.

    Cal State East Bay's beautiful main campus is located in the Hayward hills with panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay shoreline.     About the Position

    Reporting to the Provost/VP for Academic Affairs, the Founding Dean of the College of Health will help shape and will lead a new college (created through the reorganization of five departments) dedicated to advancing health education, research, and community engagement. The Founding Dean will play a critical role in developing innovative academic programs, building strong community and employer partnerships, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and promoting a culture of excellence and inclusivity. The COH will serve approximately 1,350 undergraduates and 370 graduate students as well as employ 160 faculty (Tenured, Tenure-Track and Lecturers).

    Responsibilities

    Strategic Planning and Academic Leadership:
    • Develop and implement a strategic vision for the College of Health that aligns with CSUEB’s mission and strategic plan.
    • Lead the establishment and growth of academic programs, research initiatives, and community partnerships to prepare the healthcare workforce of the future.
    • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the college and across all programs and initiatives.
    • Ensure that the college’s activities and programs reflect a commitment to social justice and health equity.
    • Lead college Chairs Counsel.

    Academic Programs, Student Success and Resource Management:
    • Develop and lead activities to build community and engage faculty.
    • Oversee the development and delivery of high-quality academic programs that meet accreditation standards and address the needs of the healthcare industry.
    • Ensure effective management of the college’s budget, resources, and facilities.
    • Lead college in delivering effective, efficient annual course schedules.
    • Explore opportunities for competitive new degree programs in the field.
    • Promote a culture of research excellence and innovation within the college.
    • Foster interdisciplinary research collaborations within the university and with external partners.
    • Integrate sustainability and environmental health principles into academic programs and research activities to address emerging public health challenges.
    • Collaborate with AVP for Research and Graduate Studies on obtaining external support.
    • Embrace technology integration in teaching, research, and administrative processes to enhance efficiency, innovation, and accessibility within the college.
    • Develop, implement and support student success initiatives that support the retention, graduation, and career readiness of students within the College of Health.
    • Manage academic advising in the College of Health.
    • Support recruitment, support and success of graduate students.
    • Encourage and support the development of interdisciplinary curriculum and experiential learning opportunities that prepare students for diverse healthcare settings and challenges.

    External Relations and Engagement:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with healthcare organizations, government agencies, and community partners.
    • Advocate for health equity and work to address health disparities in the community.
    • Contribute to development of sustainable health practices and systems.
    • Represent the College of Health to external stakeholders, including donors, alumni, and industry partners.
    • Lead fundraising efforts to support the college’s strategic initiatives and growth.
    • Actively collaborate with University Advancement on the cultivation and stewardship of private donors.
    • Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with healthcare institutions, industry leaders, and academic organizations to enhance the college's reputation and opportunities for collaboration.

    Faculty Recruitment and Retention:
    • Recruit, mentor, and retain a diverse and talented faculty and staff.
    • Review all faculty annually.
    • Review faculty for tenure, promotion, and post-tenure review.
    • Review lecturers for range elevations.
    • Lead recruitment efforts for all tenure-track faculty positions in the college.
    • Recommend department chairs for appointment and review department chairs annually.

    Facilities Management and Other Duties as Assigned:
    • Allocate and monitor the use of all space in the college.
    • Lead planning and design of renovations and new construction.
    • Identify and prioritize maintenance issues in the college.
    • Support the acquisition, installation, and maintenance of major equipment in the college.

    Required Qualifications
    • Distinguished record of teaching, scholarship or professional practice with an earned doctorate or terminal degree in a health-related field to warrant academic appointment at the rank of professor with tenure in one of Cal State East Bay’s academic departments.
    • Significant and increasingly responsible academic leadership experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
    • Demonstrated success in strategic planning, program development, and organizational leadership.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of academic and administrative leadership.
    • Knowledge of accreditation standards and best practices in health education and research.
    • Visionary leadership style, with a track record of fostering innovation and collaboration, within and across colleges.
    • Demonstrated commitment to shared governance and experience working in a collective bargaining environment.
    • Experience in administering or working with programs that serve a diverse population.
    • Substantial experience leading in an academic environment that encourages innovation, equity, scholarship, and research.
    • A strong record of building and proactively supporting faculty teaching, research, and development.
    • Experience building and maintaining strong and collegial relationships with faculty, students, staff, administration and external partners.
    • Ability to provide strong leadership through collaborative and shared decision making.
    • Ability to effectively manage resources in a competitive environment consistent with university mission and strategic plan.
    • Demonstrated ability to master and effectively implement the policies of a large complex public organization.
    • Experience working with industry and community leaders to build effective partnerships.
    • Track record of obtaining external support through contracts, grants, and private gifts.
