Why you’ll love this position:The materials testing supervisor supervises and performs tests on materials used statewide in construction and maintenance projects. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.
What you’ll do: - Supervises and performs physical testing of materials used in statewide construction and maintenance projects; prioritizes workload and assigns specific tasks to technicians.
- Assembles and utilizes various electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or nuclear equipment for testing samples. This position also utilizes KeyLab and performs geotechnical soils testing using automated systems, such as direct shear and consolidation testing machines.
- Conducts specialized and reference testing on materials; evaluates testing methods and equipment and may recommend changes to improve methods or equipment.
- Performs tests on proficiency samples; demonstrates testing procedures and equipment inspections in order to maintain central laboratory accreditation.
- Develops training materials and trains laboratory personnel, field inspectors (materials and construction), contractors, and new employees in proper testing procedures and techniques while adhering to federal and state testing methods.
All you need for success:Minimum Qualifications: - High School Diploma or GED/HiSET AND nine years of experience in technical positions, OR
- Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field AND seven years of experience in technical positions, OR
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field AND three years of experience in technical positions.
- OSHA 10-Hour Certification required within 90 days.
- Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.
Special Working Conditions: - Job requires moderate physical activity.
- Job requires exposure to moderately adverse and undesirable environmental conditions.
- Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
- Substitution or waiver of minimum requirements may be allowed.
