Under the direction of the Building Director, assists in managerial functions of the plan check and permitting activities, construction inspection activities and code enforcement activities of the City; directs the review of plans and inspection of construction projects throughout the City to ensure adherence to municipal, building, zoning, plumbing, electrical, heating, and related requirements, as well as adherence to applicable standards of construction, maintenance and safety. Acts for the Building Director in their absence. Performs other work as required.

Minimum QualificationsApplications will be accepted

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business or Public Administration or related field; AND
- Five (5) years of professional experience in building inspection, construction, engineering, code enforcement, administration; AND
- Related activities including three years at a supervisory level; OR
- An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the capabilities to perform the described duties.
- Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license.
Highly Desirable Qualifications: - Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Certified Access Specialist issued by California Division of the State Architect is highly desirable.
- Possession of a valid certificate as Certified Building Official by International Code Council is highly desirable.
- Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the California Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is highly desirable.
Examination (Weighted: 100%)An appraisal will be made of the applicant's experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.

Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed admittance to the Examination. VACATION: Accrual rate is determined by bargaining unit.
1-4 years of service: 10 days per year.
5-13 years of service: 15 days per year.
14+ years of service: 20 days per year.
VACATION - FIRE SAFETY SHIFT PERSONNEL ONLY:
1-4 years of service: 4.68 (24-hr. duty shifts)
5-15 years of service: 7.02 (24-hr. duty shifts)
16+ years of service: 9.36 (24-hr. duty shifts)
HOLIDAYS: 13 paid holidays per year.
SICK LEAVE: Earned at the rate of one working day per month of service to a maximum of 120 days; portions therafter may be convertible.
ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE: 10 days per year for General Supervisory and Management employees.
