    The Job

    APPLICATIONS PROCESSED AS RECEIVED UNTIL FILLED

    The Department of Public Works, Surveyor Division, is seeking part-time, temporary Land Surveyors to join the team. These positions will focus exclusively on the map check effort, reviewing and certifying maps to address the current backlog while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to essential survey functions and support the County’s development initiatives.

    The Department of Public Works - Surveyor Division is dedicated to providing timely and accurate map and plan check services that facilitate controlled and efficient development. With specialized expertise in Mapping, Field Survey, GIS, and Survey Research, the division ensures precise boundary determinations, reliable geographic data, and well-documented land records. By supporting sustainable growth and development, the division plays a key role in maintaining the county’s infrastructure and advancing its future.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Employment Status: This position is extra-help, and incumbent does not attain status as regular County employee. Although this position is of limited duration and temporary in nature, assignments may be up to twelve (12) months.

    Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance is required at the time of appointment.

    Physical: Frequent sitting, occasional walking, standing, bending, and squatting. Requires fine manipulation in both hands. Continuously required to reach above and below shoulder level. Must frequently demonstrate near vision and occasionally demonstrate far vision. Occasionally required to lift and carry 10 pounds or less.

    Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicant must meet one of the following requirement options:

    Option 1:
    Possession of a current license to practice Land Surveying in the State of California.

    - OR -
    Option 2: Registered Civil Engineer authorized to practice land surveying in the State of California. Pursuant to Business and Professions Codes 8700-8805.
