    This position may be filled at one of three levels based on knowledge, skills, and abilities. The entry salary is posted above, an intermediate starting salary of $56,712.48 and a senior starting salary of $61,249.44.

    Job Location: Central Office, 105 West Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City, MO

    The geographic information system specialist performs routine entry-level activities in the design, implementation, and support of geographic information systems (GIS) applications and databases. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

    MoDOT will bring candidates onto the team as entry-level, intermediate, or senior level, based on your skills and experience. This opening is for one of our CAREER-LADDER positions which offers the opportunity for career advancement without having to participate in the competitive selection interview process. As you continue to learn, acquire new skills, and gain experience, you can be promoted to a higher-level position.

    • Use ESRI ArcGIS Pro to create, manage, and share interactive web maps within ESRI ArcGIS Portal and to create, manage, and publish ArcGIS Map Services.
    • Create and modify geoprocessing models, python scripts, and database queries to meet specific GIS needs, process and analyze data, and improve the efficiency of GIS software.
    • Edits datasets by manipulating the spatial coordinates and relationships of geographic features (points, lines, and polygons) and associated attributes using a variety of data sources including design plans, aerial photography, county maps, crash reports, and change requests.
    • Test new versions of ESRI software and provide technical support and guidance on the use of GIS applications to department personnel and end users.
    • Create, edit, and update files used to develop state highway maps, district maps, county maps, and a variety of other maps used both internally and externally.


    • Bachelor's Degree: Geography, Computer Science, Surveying, Geographic Information Systems, or related field.


    Special Working Conditions:

    • Upon successful completion of a 6-month initial probationary period, a hybrid telework option may be considered. Full time telework is not available.

    • Waiver of minimum requirements may be allowed.

    • Substitution of education for the experience will be considered.

    • Substitution of experience for education may be allowed.

    • Job requires occasional, statewide, overnight travel.
