    This position will be filled at a salary no higher than the posted maximum salary.

    Job Location: Central Office, 1617 Missouri Boulevard, Jefferson City, MO

    Why you’ll love this position:

    The materials intern samples and tests general construction and maintenance materials to ensure that materials and products used in state highway construction and maintenance activities comply with specifications. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

    • Samples and tests general construction materials such as steel, cable, pipe, and concrete to determine if materials conform to specifications and approves/rejects material for intended use.
    • Samples and tests fine and coarse aggregate samples for quality and gradation specification compliance of quarries supplying materials to department projects and approves/rejects material.
    • Prepares samples for balance mix design testing; prepares samples for tensile strength ratio testing.
    • Document test results for aggregates, bituminous mixes and general materials; enter the data into the departments database.
    • Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.


    • Must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program; for engineering candidates, program must be ABET-accredited.
    • Must possess, and maintain, an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher out of 4.0.
    • Must have completed at least 30 credit hours.


    Special working conditions and job characteristics:

    • This is a wage, non-benefits eligible position, working no more than 1,039 hours per year.
    • The typical working hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
