The Missouri State Public Health Laboratory has an exciting opportunity within the Molecular unit for anyone interested in infectious disease laboratory testing. This position offers the opportunity to work with some of the latest laboratory technologies such as Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and Whole Genome Sequencing, while using a wide variety of cutting-edge instrumentation.
You will be trained in molecular-based methodologies across an array of disciplines including bacterial and viral pathogen detection, infectious disease surveillance, newborn screening, and antibiotic resistance characterization. Furthermore, you will get to see how these laboratory methods directly impact statewide epidemiology efforts, public health policies and procedures, and the residents of Missouri.
- Receive and process specimens for testing in all areas of the Molecular Unit
- Perform various Molecular techniques including Nucleic Acid Extractions, Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) testing, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), and other laboratory duties as necessary
- Perform and document proper quality control related to the above testing procedures
- Research and implementation of new testing procedures including verification and validation studies
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Chemistry, Biology, Medical Laboratory Technology, natural sciences, or a closely related field.(Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required education.)
- This position may be filled at one of three levels based on knowledge, skills and abilities. The entry salary is $45,323.21; One year of experience salary is $48,402.00; Two years of experience salary is $51,480.96.
