Minimum QualificationsApplications will be accepted

- Graduation from high school or G.E.D.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be able to pass a police background check
- Possession of a valid California Class "C" driver's license with a minimum of two years driving experience
- Possession of a valid California Standard First Aid Card, prior to field assignment
HIGHLY DESIRABLE : Experience processing crime scenes for evidence.

PRELIMINARY BACKGROUND QUESTIONNAIRE (PBQ): Prior to appointment, applicants must successfully complete a preliminary investigation of their personal history and background to determine suitability for this position with the Bakersfield Police Department. PHYSICAL AGILITY EXAM (Pass/Fail) December 6, 2024 (Tentative): The Physical Agility Exam is designed to measure the job-related physical characteristics of strength, agility and stamina required of a Police Service Technician. Applicants eligible to participate in the Physical Agility Exam will be required to successfully complete this Exam which consists of three (3) separate exercises outlined below:
1. Must successfully complete a 349 yard run (time limit: 2 minutes and 45 seconds).
2. Must successfully drag a 165 pound dummy a distance of 20 feet (time limit: 2 minutes).
3. Must successfully push a standard vehicle 30 feet (time limit: 1 minute).
ORAL APPRAISAL INTERVIEW (Weighted 100%) December 17, 2024 (Tentative): An appraisal will be made of the applicant’s training, education, experience, communication skills and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum rating of 70% is required to qualify for the Eligible List. **

VACATION: Accrual rate is determined by bargaining unit.
1-4 years of service: 10 days per year.
5-13 years of service: 15 days per year.
14+ years of service: 20 days per year.
VACATION - FIRE SAFETY SHIFT PERSONNEL ONLY:
1-4 years of service: 4.68 (24-hr. duty shifts)
5-15 years of service: 7.02 (24-hr. duty shifts)
16+ years of service: 9.36 (24-hr. duty shifts)
HOLIDAYS: 13 paid holidays per year.
SICK LEAVE: Earned at the rate of one working day per month of service to a maximum of 120 days; portions therafter may be convertible.
ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE: 10 days per year for General Supervisory and Management employees.
