Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility. In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying; law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR
One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR
An Associate’s or higher-level degree, or 60 credit hours of college-level coursework; OR
Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years of experience as a trade assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

Duties Description
The Park Worker 3’s duties include but are not limited to:
• Operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, refuse packers, tractors, mowers and power saws, and self-propelled equipment.
• Load and unload cargo from vehicles and storage areas; perform building, road, and grounds maintenance and comfort station cleaning activities.
• Operate large dump trucks, large front end loader, bucket trucks and plow trucks.
• Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and mechanical repairs.
• Perform skilled maintenance activities under supervision or after receiving detailed instruction.
• Assist in repairing paths, picnic tables, benches, trails and park equipment.
• Assist with tree pruning and removal, operation of a chain saw, aerial lift, and chipper.
• Complete snow removal by shoveling snow and operating plow vehicles in the winter months.
• Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency practice and procedures, assisting and directing staff; and assist with traffic control and parking vehicles.
• Assign, supervise, review, train and evaluate work of subordinate employees.

OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must be able to work a variable schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must obtain a valid Class B Commerical Driver’s License (CDL) that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor tasks.
• Must have the ability to supervise others.
• Must be able to pass a physical for respirator use.
• Must be comfortable working from heights and ladders.
• Must possess or obtain the Game of Logging training within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
Location Pay:
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 9 ($41,399) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400). The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($50,884) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400).
