    Description

    Under direction, responsible for work of considerable difficulty involving administrative and supervisory division-level police work involving responsibility for the effective performance of assigned divisional units or patrol shifts requiring the application of seasoned judgment and advanced police skill in meeting work problems, appraising effectiveness of police techniques, interpreting departmental policies and regulations; and performs other work as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    A COMPLETED CITY APPLICATION and SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE which comprehensively documents rank and job assignments within the previous five (5) years, as a Supervisor of the Bakersfield Police Department, must be received by the Human Resources Office by the filing deadline of November 4, 2024, by 1:00 p.m. The application is available online. Resumes WILL NOT be accepted in lieu of the COMPLETED application.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS BY THE FILING DEADLINE:
    • Associate of Arts degree or sixty (60) units and no more than three (3) units can be counted for Advanced Officer courses.
    • Must have successfully completed the Police Sergeant probationary period.
    • Possess a P.O.S.T Supervisory Certificate.
    • Possession of a Valid California driver's license.

    REQUIRED TRANSCRIPTS/DIPLOMA: It is the applicants' responsibility to make certain that a copy of their college transcripts and/or diploma certifying that they meet the minimum qualifications are in their departmental personnel file in Police Headquarters by the filing deadline. Any applicant who does not meet this requirement WILL BE rejected and notified accordingly.

    Examination (Weighted: 100%)

    EXAMINATION (Weighted: 100%) November 20-21, 2024 (Tentative) : The exam will be announced but may include one or more of the following: presentation/in-basket, performance exam; oral exam; evaluation of education, training and experience, communication and public relations skills, community policing, management/leadership skills, knowledge and abilities or other qualifications as shown by the application, or by other information submitted, or by the record; questionnaires submitted to references; or any other appropriate measure of fitness. All exam components will be equally weighted. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.

    • Blue & White Miscellaneous Unit

    VACATION: Accrual rate is determined by bargaining unit.
    1-4 years of service: 10 days per year.
    5-13 years of service: 15 days per year.
    14+ years of service: 20 days per year.

    VACATION - FIRE SAFETY SHIFT PERSONNEL ONLY:
    1-4 years of service: 4.68 (24-hr. duty shifts)
    5-15 years of service: 7.02 (24-hr. duty shifts)
    16+ years of service: 9.36 (24-hr. duty shifts)

    HOLIDAYS: 13 paid holidays per year.

    SICK LEAVE: Earned at the rate of one working day per month of service to a maximum of 120 days; portions therafter may be convertible.

    ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE: 10 days per year for General Supervisory and Management employees.

    INSURANCE: The City and the employee share contributions for premiums for health insurance coverage. The City provides life insurance benefits based on bargaining unit. Visit the City's Employee Benefit website for detailed information (rates and plan information).

    RETIREMENT: Benefits are provided by the City's participation in the Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS). 2% @ 62 for new hire Miscellaneous and 2.7% @ 57 for Safety (Fire & Police). Visit the City's Retirement websitefor additional information.
