    The Job

    THIS IS A SPECIAL DISTRICTS POSITION ONLY

    San Bernardino County Department of Public Works - Special Districts is seeking an Assessment Technician who will be responsible for the administration of Community Facility Districts, and Assessment Districts, and for levying assessments for various Board-governed County Service Areas. Duties include submittal of special taxes, assessments and service charges for the collection of the annual property tax bills, as well as assisting with formations, annexations and bond issuance. This position will maintain and produce parcel data files and prepare a variety of reports as needed, researching, compiling and analyzing data. Additional duties include coordinating and participating in various meetings with property owners, developers and other government agencies.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Background: Must successfully complete a background check prior to appointment.

    Travel: Travel within the County may be required. A valid California driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be provided for the person providing the transportation.

    Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

    Minimum Requirements

    Experience: Two (2) years of recent paid work experience performing increasingly responsible administrative work in a related industry such as a governmental Assessor's, Treasurer's, Tax Collector's, or Property Tax office, or a title company; responsibilities should include reading and interpreting assessor's maps, levy of assessments, reading and explaining tax bills, and other documents that lead to an in-depth understanding of the tax assessment process.

    NOTE: Ensure your work history clearly details qualifying experience, including your experience with tax billings, assessment requirements and interpretations, and research of parcel ownership details.

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal detail-oriented candidate will have experience with the assessment process, interacting with other government agencies and citizens, excellent research skills, as well as strong interpersonal and customer service skills. The candidate should be proficient with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel. Experience utilizing Assessor's maps, PIMS, TROL, and other related County computer programs is a plus. Applicants with related college degrees and coursework are also highly desired.
