    DEFINITION
    Has responsibility for supervision of Crime Analysts, Sheriff, and department-wide coordination of crime trends and statistics.
    CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS
    Positions allocable to this class work under the supervision of a higher-level manager and are distinguished from Crime Analyst, Sheriff, by their responsibility for serving as supervisor within the Crime Analysis Unit or Intelligence Unit as well as technical experts in crime analysis or intelligence analysis techniques and methods of analysis. The incumbents are responsible for assisting in the training, supervision, evaluation, and department-wide coordination of work methods and products of Crime Analysts, Sheriff. Incumbents coordinate the work of crime analysis satellite units located at sheriff stations and specialized units which are engaged in analyzing series, trends, and patterns of criminal activity and for the preparation of reports of actual and anticipated criminal activity for operation personnel to develop plans for deployment, prevention, and apprehension.

    Essential Job Functions

    Supervises, inspects, monitors, mentors, and evaluates Crime Analysts, Sheriff, in the performance of their duties to ensure they are meeting performance standards.

    Reviews and approves crime analysis and intelligence work products such as crime bulletins, situation reports, maps, phone toll analyses, charts, assessments, and special ad-hoc projects.

    Promotes information sharing among crime and intelligence analysts assigned to the Sheriff’s Department, as well as with outside law enforcement agencies.

    Identifies and coordinates analyst training to enhance analytical skillsets.

    Ensures analysts have a working knowledge of the various analytical software programs and systems.

    Performs administrative duties to ensure compliance with Departmental policies and procedures.

    Troubleshoots analytical issues and problems.

    Conducts annual audits/inspections, writes reports, and presents findings and recommendations to unit commanders and Department executives on areas requiring improvement.

    Serves as technical advisor to Crime Analysts in crime and intelligence analysis techniques and methods of analysis.

    Participates in or oversees the more complex phases of analytical work or special projects with time-sensitive deadlines.

    Tests, reviews, and evaluates utilization of automated analytical software applications.

    Ensures that an effective liaison is developed and maintained with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to exchange crime information.

    Serves as crime and/or intelligence analysis subject matter expert to Department personnel and outside law enforcement agencies.

    Assists the Crime Analysis Program Manager with recruitment, selection, training, mentoring, and placement of personnel.

    Ensures analytical support and products meet the needs of the units of assignment and/or Department.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Social/Behavioral Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field* AND five years of experience as a crime and/or intelligence analyst earned in a recognized law enforcement agency.
    ALL APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS BY NOVEMBER 15, 2024, IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS EXAMINATION.

    LICENSE:

    A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions .
    PHYSICAL CLASS
    Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION
    *In order to receive credit for the required degree, you MUST include a legible copy of the official degree, official transcripts, or official letter from the accredited institution which shows the area of specialization with your application at the time of filing, or within seven (7) calendar days from the date of filing your online application.     SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE
    As part of this application process, applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire. The questionnaire contains a pre-investigative questionnaire which will be utilized as part of the background investigation process to ensure applicants meet the standards set forth by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Applicants who fail the pre-investigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait twelve (12) months from the date of the disqualification in order to reapply.

    EXAMINATION CONTENT
    A structured interview assessing applied experience & training, adaptability, planning and organizing, problem solving, coaching and developing, motivation and initiative, interpersonal skills, assertiveness and confidence, performance management, judgment and decision making, and verbal communication weighted 100%. As part of the interview, candidates will also be required to complete a brief writing exercise. Candidates who do not submit a writing sample will be disqualified from this examination.

    CANDIDATES MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 70% OR HIGHER ON THE EXAMINATION IN ORDER TO BE PLACED ON THE ELIGIBLE LIST.

    TESTING ACCOMMODATION

    VETERAN'S CREDIT
    If you served in the miliary and were honorably discharged, you may qualify for Veteran’s Credit. To receive this credit, please include a copy of your DD214 Form issued by the branch of service with your application for review.

    ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION
    The names of candidates receiving a passing grade in the examination will be placed on the eligible list in the order of their score group for a period of six (6) months from the date of promulgation.

    SPECIAL INFORMATION

    SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES MUST COMPLETE A THOROUGH BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, INCLUDING FINGERPRINT SEARCH. Examples of disqualifying factors include: Any felony convictions; job related misdemeanor convictions; certain serious traffic convictions or patterns of traffic violations (3 moving violations in one year; failure to appear; at fault accidents; suspended license; driving under the influence); poor credit history; poor employment history; substance abuse; anyone on probation.

    ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY IF HIRED
    The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (Department) has a "zero tolerance" policy for its employees for the following:
    • use of narcotics, controlled substances, and/or prescription drugs without a prescription.
    Any employee found in violation of this policy will be subject to discharge.
