    Description

    The Communications Trainer oversees and coordinates all professional development programs including applicant testing, new employee education, continuing education and professional development. Facilitates the ongoing education related to Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement. Develops and provides competency based education to all personnel for obtaining and maintaining continuing education requirements for various certifications/licenses. Responsible for ensuring the classes required for new employees and existing personnel meet or exceed minimum regulatory requirements, developing lesson plans, and ensuring competencies are mastered.

    Examples of Duties

    Prepares/updates educational and training documents, reports and manuals including main training manual for the department.

    Determines training needs for Communications Training Officers (CTO) based on valid operational data and QA/QI information.

    Oversees training program including review and recommendations off of daily activity reports for trainees.

    Meets with trainees and CTOs regarding training program progression.

    Assists in scheduling of employees, specifically in relation to trainees and the training of all staff.

    Develops and provides training and assessment to personnel on existing and new technologies, software, and hardware introduced into the Communications Center.

    Locates, schedules and facilitates all classes needed by employees of the Communications Center.

    Coordinates development and implementation of educational programs for communications personnel.

    Teaches procedures relating to police, fire, and EMS function.

    Develops and provides remedial education plans.

    Tracks and distributes various re-certifications required for employee including EMD, CTO, TCIC/NCIC, and CJIS.

    Ensures all telecommunications certification licenses are current and active for communication employees.

    Creates, distributes and reviews medical, police and fire continuing education materials as required by NAED and TCOLE.

    Team lead for the quality assurance program; oversees the review process of audio of EMS calls for service based on standards identified. Evaluates call taker performance for compliance with IAED standards and Denton County Sheriff Office policy.

    Face to face meetings with employees in reference to quality assurance metrics.

    Assists management with innovative ideas and direction to attain department goals and objectives.

    Assists in reviewing and updating policies and procedures.

    Applicant testing.

    Performs related special projects and other duties as assigned.

    Regular and punctual attendance is required.

    Performs other related duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Must be 18 years of age.

    Must be a U.S. citizen.

    High School Diploma or GED and minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience in telecommunications or dispatching work, including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
    Licensure as a Telecommunicator in the State of Texas required. Intermediate level is preferred.

    Required Certifications: TCIC/NCIC Certification and TLETS/NLETS certification. Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification by the IAED and CPR/AED certification.

    Must be able to obtain TCIC Associate Trainer and TCOLE Instructor within the first twelve (12) months of employment.

    Preferred Certifications: Emergency Medical Dispatch Quality Assurance (EMD-Q), American Heart Associate CPR AED First Aid Instructor.

    Possession of a valid driver's license. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver's license within 90 days.
