This position will be located at Castlewood State Park, 1401 Kiefer Creek Rd, Ballwin Missouri. Typical work schedule will be Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (1/2 hour lunch break) with the requirement to work weekends on a rotating basis with three other full-time staff. A flexible work schedule during the off-season is possible. Shifts may vary with the time of year and in order to meet the needs of the facility. Must also be able to work weekends or evenings depending on holidays, emergencies, special events.
- Responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled work in the alteration, maintenance, natural resource stewardship, and repair of state buildings and facilities.
- Work in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete and masonry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair in settings such as facilities and grounds.
- Routine cleaning of park buildings, restrooms and park grounds.
- Maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license to operate and maintain licensed vehicles, as well as tractors, mowers, skid steer, and other grounds related equipment.
- Operate and maintain lawn mowers, tractors, skid loader, trucks, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and similar mechanical equipment.
- Assist with prescribed burns, wildfire suppression, herbicide application, and other natural or cultural activities as directed with the completion of Level 1 Prescribed Fire training.
- May also oversee a crew engaged in maintenance tasks.
- Perform customer service tasks such as answering questions from the public, checking answering machine, returning phone calls and updating the park status map as needed.
This position is required to obtain and maintain first-aid/CPR training and Level 1 Prescribed Fire Training, and may be required to obtain and maintain a Drinking Water Distribution certification and/or a Wastewater certification, and/or other required licenses/certification. If required and if you do not currently possess this license/certification, you will be given 12 months to obtain necessary license/certification.

- Stewardship (Resources): Basic knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of natural and cultural features along with special ecological stewardship requirements; capable of gaining experience in performing stewardship tasks required for strenuous outdoor work; ability to appear before the public, makes clear and convincing oral presentations; give out general information, conduct interpretive educational programs and conduct tours about natural and cultural history in an effective way; assist in supervising, recruiting, training and evaluating seasonal and volunteer staff.
- Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.
- Interpersonal Skills:(**) Treats others with courtesy, sensitivity, and respect. Considers and responds appropriately to the needs and feelings of different people in different situations.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
- 1-3 years of experience in any of the following trade areas: electrical, plumbing, concrete and masonry, carpentry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair.
