    Human Resources Generalist

    Annual Salary Range: $48,000 - $51,000

    The Department of Labor and Industrial Relations is seeking an enthusiastic and customer-service-driven applicant with excellent communication skills to join our HR team! We provide leadership in planning, integrating, and implementing HR services to staff and applicants statewide. The HR team supports an inclusive and dynamic culture and workforce and pursues continuous improvement through knowledge and collaboration.

    What you will do:

    • Coordinate timekeeping activities for approximately 700 employees, review leave balances/entries for accuracy, and review compensatory time for compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
    • Reconciliation of the timekeeping system before payroll runs twice a month.
    • Provide day-to-day assistance to staff and applicants regarding compensation, payroll, benefits, and time and leave.
    • Enter employee information into the state’s payroll system (SAM II), including contact information, salary, deductions, and tax withholdings.
    • Work with employees and the Office of Administration to correct payroll errors.
    • Coordinate new employee paperwork and disseminate information regarding employee benefits.
    • Generate and verify the accuracy of personnel and payroll information reports.
    • Support the recruitment interview process and review applicant qualifications in HireTrue.
    • Process employee Workers’ Compensation paperwork, assist with DOLIR Unemployment claims, fitness for duty, etc.
    • Review Position Description Questionnaires, ensuring proper completion and giving guidance where needed.
    • Prepare written justification for position allocation requests.


    All you need for success:

    Qualifications

    • 3 years of experience in Human Resources OR a Bachelor’s degree


    Lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis for denying consideration to any applicant.

    • Working knowledge of human resources administration principles and practices, including methods and techniques for position classification, compensation, recruitment, and selection.
    • Proficiency with the state’s HR/payroll system (SAM II) is preferred but not required.
    • Exercise independence and initiative in the performance of responsibilities.
    • Close attention to detail.
    • Seek to assist team members and accept additional assignments willingly.
    • Maintain positive working relationships and conduct duties with courtesy and respect.
    • Accept and implement feedback with a positive attitude and constructively support open communication, dedication, and compassion.
    • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
