    Chancellor's Office Statement

    Join our team at the California State University, Office of the Chancellor, and make a difference in providing access to higher education. We are currently seeking experienced candidates for the position of ATI Web, Digital Content, and ICT Accessibility Specialist. The CSU Chancellor's Office, located on the waterfront adjacent to the Aquarium of the Pacific in downtown Long Beach, is the headquarters for the nation's largest and most diverse system of higher education. The CSU Chancellor's Office offers a premium benefit package that includes outstanding vacation, health, and dental plans; a fee waiver education program; membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); and 15 paid holidays a year.

    Salary

    The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $7,371 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

    The salary range for this classification is $7,371 to $14,274 per month.

    Information Technology Consultant - Expert

    Position Information

    The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking an ATI Web, Digital Content, and ICT Accessibility Specialist to perform a wide variety of moderate to complex duties and responsibilities related to professional-level project organization and methodologies. The incumbent leads web accessibility efforts, digital content remediation, accessibility conformance documentation review, and manual interface evaluations for the CSU Chancellor’s Office and campuses as related to the Accessible Technology Initiative. Ongoing web evaluations, both automated and manual, on websites, web content, web applications, digital content, and IT product interfaces comprise the majority of the position’s responsibilities. The incumbent receives and responds to questions and provides guidance for accessibility of development and remediation and prioritization of existing content; leads accessibility reviews of Chancellor’s Office and web platforms with systemwide impact; and performs ICT manual interface evaluations related to procurement. This position combines technical expertise, collaboration, remediation, and training to promote inclusive design and compliance with accessibility standards.

    This position is approved for telecommuting (two days telecommuting, three days in office (in-person)) with onsite work at the main headquarters located in Long Beach, California.

    Responsibilities

    Under the general direction of the Director of Digital Accessibility and Equity, the ATI Web, Digital Content, and ICT Accessibility Specialist will perform duties as outlined below:

    Audit, Compliance, and Remediation:

    -Conduct regular accessibility audits and assessments of digital products, including websites, applications, multimedia, and digital content for the Chancellor’s Office and web-based acquisitions with system-wide impact.

    -Regularly monitor web properties and platforms for accessibility compliance.

    -Review the accessibility of digital content held on websites and provide remediation expertise.

    -Maintain records of accessibility testing and compliance efforts, progress, and challenges.

    -Maintain and configure enterprise-wide automated accessibility tools and manual testing processes.

    Consultation, Collaboration & Training:

    -Provides support to campus developers and technology experts regarding best practices for web accessibility, including administration of the systemwide approved enterprise scanning tool and associated manual testing protocols.

    -Develop and deliver training sessions, workshops, and resources to educate campus stakeholders on accessibility principles within the Chancellor’s Office and for CSU campuses.

    -Work with IT teams, web developers, designers, and content creators to ensure accessibility is integrated into all digital assets during design and development.

    -Lead the Web Accessibility CoP, including developing agendas, identifying speakers, and managing meeting logistics.

    -Effectively promote web accessibility principles with a diverse group of stakeholders at all levels by establishing, encouraging, and maintaining cooperative and productive relationships with others and as a member of a team or unit.

    Accessibility Conformance Review, Reporting, and Administration:

    -Assist with CSU ATI systemwide reporting requirements in the web priority.

    -Generate reports for senior leadership and stakeholders.

    -Review accessibility conformance reports (ACR), such as Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates (VPATs) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) statements, and perform automated and manual testing to substantiate claims and validate accuracy.

    -Analyze and participate in evaluating existing and emerging technologies for conformance with accessibility standards.

    -Provide stakeholder and vendor communication and follow-up concerning accessibility conformance documentation and related internal documents such as Equally Effective Alternate Access Plans (EEAAPs).

    -Guide in the development, documentation, and refinement of campus procedures.

    Standards and Practices:

    -Assist in developing and implementing accessibility practices specific to California State University EO1111 and subsequent coded memorandums.

    -Stay informed about industry trends, legal requirements, and emerging technologies related to web accessibility.

    -Coordinate multiple ongoing projects, use project management tools, work independently on task assignments, investigate and troubleshoot complex problems, and perform daily responsibilities.

    Qualifications

    This position requires:

    -Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a technology-related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and related experience is required.

    -Certification in Web Accessibility e.g., IAAP WAS, Trusted Tester.

    -Technical proficiency in web coding standards (W3C) and familiarity with web development technologies.

    -Minimum five years of experience in front-end or full-stack web design.

    -Experience with automated testing tools and manual testing methodologies.

    -Knowledge of WCAG principles, success criteria, and techniques is essential for evaluating and implementing accessibility best practices.

    -Thorough proficiency with front-end development in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Understanding how to create accessible HTML structures, style elements with CSS, and enhance interactivity using JavaScript is essential for ensuring inclusive design.

    Preferred Qualifications

    -Master’s degree in a technology-related discipline.

    -Five years of direct experience in web accessibility.

    -Proficiency in conducting usability tests with individuals who have disabilities. Understanding how different assistive technologies interact with web content and user flow.

    -Expertise with screen readers, magnifiers, alternate input, and other assistive technologies related to facilitated access.

    -Knowledge of mobile web and responsive design principles.

    -Understanding of UX design and development.

    -Understanding of ARIA’s proper use to enhance the accessibility of dynamic web content, ARIA roles, states, and properties for accessible interactive elements.

    -Knowledge of universal design principles and human-centered design is preferred.

    -Knowledge of web digital content design principles, methodologies, and content management software, including developing accessible PDF documents.

    -Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
