    OUTSTANDING COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

    Annual base salary Up to $187,907 DOQ

    U p to $195,423 annual with Modified Benefits Option, DOQ

    San Bernardino County offers a generous compensation package that includes a competitive salary within the designated 92C salary range and our excellent Exempt C Benefits package. The County also offers an alternative Modified Benefit Option (MBO) that provides a wage differential of 4% above the base salary rate with a complementing modified leaves package and benefits.

    THE OPPORTUNITY

We are excited to invite a dynamic and driven licensed professional engineer with substantial land development and leadership experience to join ourLand Use Services Department as the new Land Development Chief (Chief Engineer). In this role, you will spearhead our newly established Land Development Division, with responsibility for providing technical support to staff; evaluating plans for proposed assessments and maintenance districts and related bond and fee requirements; review development proposals within the unincorporated areas of the County. The new Chief will play a key role in shaping the division’s success and ensuring top-notch service delivery and operational excellence.     The Land Development Chief (Chief Engineer) will report directly to an Assistant Director of Land Use Services, playing a key role in coordinating, planning, organizing, and directing all administrative, operational, and financial activities within the new Land Development Division. This newly established position offers a fantastic opportunity to transform and enhance the land development project planning process within the County. The role involves leading and refining all services and operations within the Division to boost efficiency and improve and accelerate the project planning process. Additionally, the new Chief will step in for the Assistant Director when they are absent.

    The Ideal Candidate for Land Development Chief (Chief Engineer) would possess a blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and strategic vision that includes extensive knowledge of land development processes such as zoning, permitting, and infrastructure planning. They should demonstrate a strategic vision for enhancing efficiency and streamlining processes, possess technical expertise with the latest industry software and tools, and have a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with adaptability and resilience in managing complex projects.

    THE QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field. Experience: Five years of supervision or administrative experience in a complex land development and/or engineering environment within an organization that is exposed to steady growth and development. Licenses/Certifications: Registered as a professional civil engineer by the State of California; certifications and memberships with related civil engineering organizations are highly desired.

    Candidate possessing an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
