    RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

    In support of improving student retention and graduation rates, this position provides lead work direction to Learning Resource Center (LRC) Instructional Student Assistants (ISAs), supports the management of daily operations in the LRC, works closely with LRC professional staff members, administrators, academic departments, individual faculty, and the community to support the changing needs of the LRC and CSUCI. The incumbent performs moderately complex professional student services work. In collaboration with the LRC Director, The Assistant Coordinator of Tutoring Services is responsible for leading all Instructional Student Assistant subject tutors; developing appropriate tutoring methodologies, materials, and guidelines of subject tutoring staff; and recommending changes on related matters both within and outside the area of the LRC subject tutoring program. Additional responsibilities include program evaluation and outreach, tutor observation and evaluation, and representing the LRC on various campus committees.

    Specific responsibilities for the LRC Coordinator of Tutoring Services include the following:
    • Collaborate with the LRC Director to implement and evaluate existing academic support and tutoring services and strategies, including data-driven campaigns, to improve student academic success, retention, and timely degree completion rates;
    • Maintain and expand existing learning resource materials that integrate and update instructional technologies in tutor training programming by assisting in the development of course support modules through partnerships with Teaching and Learning Innovations (TLi) and departments using Canvas;
    • Develop and lead study skills workshops for student groups, with an emphasis on success workshops for first-generation, low-income, and historically excluded student populations;
    • Identify workshop topics and presenters, develop workshop materials, and create and distribute promotional materials;
    • Monitor and maintain internal-facing and external-facing Canvas course shells for ISA team and CSUCI students;
    • Recruit, train, and oversee academic support leaders and instructional student assistants (ISAs), including observations of ISAs;
    • Provide input into the evaluation of center tutors and student assistant staff;
    • Maintain ISA employee files to support evaluation and accountability; plan ISA recognition ceremonies;
    • Collaborate with LRC Staff to maintain and coordinate academic support and tutoring schedules and sessions;
    • Analyze tutoring policies and procedures and adapt as needed to align with current and emerging powerful practices, especially as relates to equity and inclusivity in peer-assisted learning;
    • Collaborate with the LRC Director to design and implement subject tutoring outreach to include faculty, staff, administration, and students;
    • Conduct LRC information sessions, coordinate center tours, classroom visits, and tabling to promote services;
    • Collaborate with the LRC Director to build partnerships with cross-divisional staff (EOPS, Student Affairs, Broome Library, DASS, Residential Education, Career Services) to assess student needs and design potential interventions;
    • Maintain regular and systematic communications with faculty teaching courses served by the LRC;
    • Serve on campus committees/student organizations as needed and as assigned by supervisor;
    • Monitor and support the use of TutorTrac by student staff, assisting student staff as needed.
    • Advise students and provide referrals to other academic and support programs

    REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:

    Demonstrated experience and interest in working in a fast-paced, multicultural environment is required, with a demonstrated ability to support a diverse community of learners and educators, and a proven record of commitment to equity initiatives in higher education.

    Minimum qualifications include:

    Knowledge of:
    • The principles, practices, procedures, activities, and major trends in the Academic Student Services field, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
    • Student development, success, and retention theories, especially for students of diverse, historically excluded, and/or under-served backgrounds.
    • The principles of individual and group behavior.
    Fluent in the use of standard office equipment (computers, copiers, phones) and standard office software packages, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PPT, and Outlook).

    Experience:

    Equivalent to two years of professional experience administering services for tutoring and/or supplemental instruction in an institution of higher education. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

    Education:

    Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a STEM discipline, behavioral sciences, education, or a job-related field. A Master’s degree in a job-related field is preferred and may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

    Skills:

    The candidate must demonstrate excellent written and/or oral communication, including the ability to communicate by phone, email, and in group settings; the ability to maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, and staff across the university; exercise tact, courtesy, alertness, and good judgment when responding to others. Candidate must be able to plan, organize and prioritize work, and work within time-sensitive cycles of activity to complete assignments; must be proficient in the use of technology and able to use technology to track program data and make recommendations; must have familiarity with campus student information systems such as GET/PeopleSoft, Learning Management Systems such as Canvas and/or Blackboard, website development and maintenance, and online tutoring platforms such as Zoom; experience with marketing and outreach for student services and events.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to conduct small and large group presentations. Experience with technology used in Learning Center management, such as TutorTrac and Qualtrics, and/or in the administration of a Peer-Led Team Learning or a Supplemental Instruction program, is preferred. Familiarity with learning assistance standards such as College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) International Tutor Training Certification Program Requirements and National College Learning Centers Association (NCLCA) Learning Centers of Excellence Certification Guidelines preferred. Experience with UMKC Model of Supplemental Instruction desired

    Hiring Salary: $4,841 per month
