    nature of position

    Lead this multifaceted, public purpose enterprise that finances affordable housing, business and economic growth opportunities throughout Colorado. This position is responsible for the overall operation and management of the affairs of CHFA. It includes consultation with the Board of Directors and maintaining and developing relationships with a myriad of business partners at all levels of government, the for profit and nonprofit sectors, and overseeing the organization’s long-term sustainability. The position is appointed by and reports to the Board of Directors, which is the governing body of CHFA and is vested with all of CHFA's statutory authority.

    Strategic Leadership

    • Set and lead the short- and long-term vision and strategies of CHFA, in conjunction with the Board.
    • Advance the organization’s mission ensuring CHFA is leveraging all resources to serve the mission effectively.
    • Leverage opportunities and set policies that enhance and further develop the business of CHFA, obtaining Board approval as appropriate. 
    • Lead with an entrepreneurial spirit where all risks are managed appropriately.
    • Provide effective leadership, direction, and support to staff to ensure that organization and individual strategic and tactical objectives are met in a changing environment.
    • Keep abreast of developments in federal and state legislation that have opportunities and/or implications for CHFA.
    • Maintain a collaborative, team-oriented environment where consensus is built and partnerships leveraged.
    • Engaging Board to leverage their expertise and knowledge, while maintaining regular communication.

     

    Financial Leadership

    • Provide sufficient oversight and understanding to ensure CHFA maintains strong and sustainable fiscal management.
    • Ensure CHFA’s ability to raise and manage capital to serve Colorado.

     

    Operational/Community-Based Leadership

    • Lead and inspire a high-performing team to accomplish the goals set, work to continuously improve processes, and deliver excellent service in a hybrid working environment.
    • Working within a team concept, improve products and services to ensure CHFA’s ability to fulfill the mission effectively.
    • Ensure a high level of accountability while responding timely and effectively to ensure programs and products are effectively serving Colorado.
    • As CHFA’s primary spokesperson, sustain an appropriate presence at all levels of government, and within the business and nonprofit community, media, and other external organizations.
    • Ensure appropriate involvement in the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA) and its legislative and regulatory priorities regarding preservation and protection of State HFA federal programs, among other things.
    • Take a proactive approach to partner with state and local constituents to seek opportunities for CHFA and the community of Colorado.
    • Assist the Board Chair and the Board of Directors in fulfilling its governance function.
    • Ability to have fun with a demonstrated sense of humor.

    • Strong working knowledge of finance and understanding of housing and business finance and development, along with related public policy.
    • Strong financial literacy demonstrating a high level of understanding in internal and external economics of the business.

  • Job Requirements

    experience/education

    • Bachelor’s degree in business, or related degree; equivalent work experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
    • Fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience collectively in related industry.
    • Ten (10) years of experience in a leadership capacity.

    physical environment

    The incumbent in this position will perform the essential functions of the position primarily in a hybrid office environment with permanent residence in Colorado. Approximately 30% local and state travel.
