    Introduction

    The Fire Safety & Training Coordinator is a professional-level job classification that is primarily responsible for developing, coordinating, evaluating, and delivering general and specialized technical and safety training to the Fire department, as well as other public safety agencies, as part of Regional Training.

    ANTICIPATED STARTING SALARY MAY BE UP TO MID-POINT DEPENDING ON CANDIDATE'S EXPERIENCE AND INTERNAL EQUITY.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • Five years of experience in occupational health and safety, or safety training.
    • Knowledge of Phoenix Regional Volume 2 and 10 to ensure curriculum aligns with current practices and standards.
    • Experience as a Phoenix Regional Recruit Training Officer to mentor and guide recruits.
    • Understanding of Phoenix regional training standards.
    • Experience working within regional fire department training division.
    • Preferred Associate's Degree in Fire Science, Business Administration, Business Management, Public Administration, Occupational Health and Safety, Training, or related field from an accredited educational institution.
    Equivalency Statement
    • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

    Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
    • Conducts needs analyses with work groups to identify their future training needs and goals.
    • Facilitates meetings; acts as an advisor and reviews or consults on training; and reviewing new tools, programs, equipment, and safety gear.
    • Communicates orally and in writing with Department's employees, other City employees, governmental agencies and representatives, vendors, contractors, and others to create awareness of services offered and to provide training and education.
    • Prepares and develops written documents, including manuals, reports, forms, and PowerPoint
    • Coordinates with outside agencies to conduct on-site certification testing, helps employees renew certifications, and coordinates practice tests and study sessions.
    • Works with Scottsdale training division to develop recruitment and retention programs as well as promotional processes.
    • Coordinates a variety of activities in support of training and education programs.
    • Participates in conducting research and analyses data to make recommendations regarding special projects, trainings, and workshops.
    • Monitors and evaluates training programs to determine effectiveness and additional needs.
    • Coordinates work activities, program functions, and special events with other city departments, businesses, and agencies.

    • Performs job function in a variety of environments ranging from office to training facilities and fire stations.
    • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer terminal, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement.
    • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
    • Must use proper personal protective equipment as required by law, to include hard hat, hearing protection, steel toe boots.
    • Travel to/from meetings and various locations.
