Under general supervision, the Drainage Senior Crew Leader coordinates, performs, and assists in the supervision and maintenance of the City’s streets or drainage projects and initiatives; operates all heavy equipment and maintains various types of maintenance equipment and tools; prepares and maintains records and ensures compliance with regulatory agency guidelines. Utilizes technology to record the location of streets or drainage assets. Analyzes and monitors streets or drainage system processes and identifies and implements intermediate to advanced level process adjustments to ensure optimum performance.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provides work direction to other maintenance staff; assigns and reviews work; trains workers; provides supplies and materials for work projects.
  • Distributes materials to work crews; performs inventory of supplies, parts and materials; orders and receives various items from vendors.
  • Receives and responds to citizen complaints.
  • Replaces, repairs, and installs streets; curbs, sidewalks.
  • Replaces, repairs, and installs drainage mains; repairs, builds, or replaces inlets and manholes;
  • Installs and/or upgrades new stormwater inlets and taps; installs grate inlets;
  • Jets and vacuums stormwater lines; vacuums and cleans debris and overflows.
  • Locates and marks utilities.
  • Repairs tools, small engines and various construction equipment; performs light maintenance on large equipment.
  • Performs fabrication of parts.
  • Conducts the building and/or repair of various building structures.
  • Performs fueling operations for City vehicles and equipment.
  • Transports heavy equipment to job sites.
  • Operates light and heavy motorized vehicles and equipment.
  • Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Employees may at any time be required to work unscheduled overtime in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent; AND five (5) years’ experience in Street or Drainage maintenance and repair operations; ORan equivalent combination of education and experience including 3 years’ supervisory or lead work and City of Galveston Management Certification. A valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License is required. Must be able to demonstrate operation of heavy equipment. Must pass internal assessment and identified training courses for advancement

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed primarily in an outdoor work environment. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, potential physical harm, hazardous chemicals and infectious diseases. May be required to work in confined spaces. May be required to climb ladders. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds.
