Job Description

Job Location: Western Missouri - The position will be domiciled in Cass, Johnson, Jackson, Lafayette counties. Applicants residing in surrounding counties will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Perform comprehensive inspections of fuel dispensing devices, storage tanks, storage tank fill and vent lines, dispensing filters, ensuring appropriate labeling is present, measure water in storage tanks, and reviewing bills of lading.
  • Obtain fuel samples and ship or submit them to the Fuel Quality Laboratory in Jefferson City for analysis.
  • Enforce state statutes and regulations pertinent to public safety and fuel quality.
  • Investigate complaints relating to fuel quality.
  • Issue notices of violations and stop sale orders relating to violations of state statutes and regulations relating to fuel quality.
  • Performing re-inspection of facilities ensuring violations have been completed or stop sale orders have been corrected.
  • Prepare and submit official documentation required for all job functions to the lab accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Employee will work from their home and travel each day in their assigned territory.
  • Represent the department in a professional manner at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Territory includes: Andrew, Atchison, Barry, Barton, Bates, Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll, Cass, Cedar, Chariton, Christian, Clay, Clinton, Dade, Dallas, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Greene, Grundy, Harrison, Henry, Holt, Jasper, Jackson, Johnson, Lafayette, Lawrence, Linn, Livingston, McDonald, Mercer, Newton, Nodaway, Polk, Platte, Putnam, Ray, St. Clair, Stone, Sullivan, Taney, Vernon, Webster, and Worth counties

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight in a hotel is required. Ability to work outdoors and in adverse weather conditions. Ability to work in a potentially hazardous environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of technical experience in the petroleum industry relating to the installation and repair of fuel storage, utilization and dispensing systems (i.e., pipeline and barge terminals, gasoline delivery truck meters, gasoline pumps, atmospheric and pressure vessel fuel storage tanks and petroleum piping systems, etc.)
