    The Job

    The County of San Bernardino Sheriff's Department is recruiting for Extra-Help Polygraph Examiners who administer polygraph examinations for the Specialized Investigations Division. Responsibilities include administering criminal, pre-employment and administrative polygraph examinations; recording, interpreting and analyzing responses; performing background investigations; and perform related duties as required.

    Note: This is an Extra-Help position. Successful candidates shall be considered at-will throughout the term of their employment, and will not attain status as a regular county employee.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

    1) Background: Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation, including a polygraph examination. Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony.
    2) Appointment: This is an extra-helpposition which does not obtain status as a regular County employee.

    3) Availability: Incumbents work primarily a day shift.
    4) Sponsorship: Please note San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

    Minimum Requirements

    Certificate: Must possess a current certificate from an American Polygraph Association (APA) accredited Polygraph Examiners Course.

    -- AND --

    In addition to the Polygraph Examiner Certificate, candidates MUST meet one of the following experience options:

    Option A: One (1) year of full-time equivalent experience administering polygraph examinations.
    Option B: Three (3) years of experience in a law enforcement environment which includes experience conducting interviews and/or interrogations.

    Substitution: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Social Science, or other related area may substitute for up to one (1) year of the law enforcement experience as listed in Option B.

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will exhibit strong oral and written communication skills and have experience administering polygraph examinations. Experience with Lafayette polygraph LX-4000 or LX-5000 instruments, and a strong working knowledge of the Zone Comparison Technique and numerical scoring is also highly desirable.

    Membership in good standing with the California Association of Polygraph Examiners (CAPE) is highly desirable.
