Description RECREATION SPECIALIST (Job Code 9327) Hours: 5 to 25 hours/week. Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Documents all incidents involving injury, behavioral problems and/or any unusual events; communicates as appropriate to supervisor, parent/guardians and others. Ensures the safety of the public and staff at all times by inspecting, patrolling, monitoring, and instructing on the safe use of program facilities, equipment, and supplies; maintains a safe, clean, and tidy environment; reports unsafe conditions or illegal activities. Assists and participates in recreation services special events, including setting up and taking down equipment and materials and facilitating activities. Develops and prepares brochures, flyers, newsletters and other materials Participates in Public Service Announcements. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work-related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push, pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds is also required. The City of Ventura’s Parks and Recreation Department is actively hiring for part-time, extra-help Recreation Leader I/II and Recreation Specialist positions. Recreation Leader I/II and Recreation Specialists work under general supervision and may provide on-sight supervision, oversight, instruction, and support for a variety of programs, tours, and recreation activities in the areas of sports, cultural arts, interpretive and adaptive services, and other related parks, recreation, senior, youth, and community programs and services. Description CAMP COUNSELOR (CASUAL/CASUAL SEASONAL) (Recreation Specialist Job Code: 9327) Hours: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Seasonal non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than six (6) consecutive months and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). What you will be doing: These positions play a key role in the development and delivery of quality, nutritious meals within budget. The Food Service Coordinator directs the overall food service operation of Camp Concord including purchasing, preparation, nutrition, service, sanitation, security, personnel management, customer service, and record keeping. The Coordinator directly oversees kitchen staff, creates a positive working environment, and ensures that meals are of quality and on time. The Cooks and Prep Cooks assist the Food Service Coordinator in preparing meals and in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dishwashing area. Camp Concord is dedicated to the philosophy that its buildings, programs and participants will be compatible with the surrounding environment. Camp Concord has a variety of programming and activities including family camps, youth camps, mother and son camps, adults over 50 camps, group rentals, and special events. What you will be doing: These positions play a key role in the development and delivery of quality, nutritious meals within budget. Approximately 150-400 meals are served to camp participants and staff three times a day, with meal numbers changing daily. This also includes several off-site meals per week. On camp meals are primarily served cafeteria style. The Food Service Coordinator directs the overall food service operation of Camp Concord including purchasing, preparation, nutrition, service, sanitation, security, personnel management, customer service, and record keeping. The Coordinator directly oversees kitchen staff, creates a positive working environment, and ensures that meals are of quality and on time. The Cooks and Prep Cooks assist the Food Service Coordinator in preparing meals and in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dishwashing area. Cooks are differentiated from Prep Cooks by their level of experience and ability to work independently. The Hospitality Specialist assists the Food Service Team in preparing the dining hall for meals and activities as well setting up, serving, and cleaning up all meals both on and off site. They may also provide assistance in other areas on an as needed basis. All positions are part time, limited service, and m ust be able to work 5-6 days a week. Shifts are based on meal times and special events so hours may vary as needed. Attendance at weekly in-service trainings is also required.
