    About the University:

    California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) opened in 2002 as the newest campus in the California State University system. Since that time, the University has grown and developed into one of the premier public universities, not only in the California State University system, but also in the nation.     CSUCI is a public comprehensive university that engages students in critical inquiry and is dedicated to educating leaders for a global society. The University is located in Ventura County and is home to more than 4,959 undergraduate and 168 graduate students. Approximately 48% of CSUCI’s students are Pell Grant eligible, and approximately 60% are first-generation college students.     About the Program:

    The Biology Program at CSUCI prepares students for the next step in their careers: to educated and train the next generation of biological scientists and medical professionals. The Biology Program promotes teaching of fundamental and unifying concepts integrated with the practice of analysis and discovery. The Biology Program offers lower and upper division GE courses as well as courses that support other majors including Health Sciences, Nursing and Environmental Sciences and Resource Management.

    About the Position:

    The major responsibilities include the instruction of courses and labs in the Biology Program. Part-time instructors are sought with backgrounds and experience in teaching introductory Biology courses for majors, Biostatistics/Quantitative Methods in Biology, General Ecology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or Microbiology.

    Minimum Degree Requirements:

    Master’s degree in Biology or a related discipline

    Required Qualifications:

    • Experience developing and teaching introductory biology courses for majors, biostatistics/quantitative methods in biology, general ecology, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology or microbiology.
    • Applicants should demonstrate the commitment to effectively work with and engage a diverse student population and evidence of how they would successfully mentor minoritized students with special focus on Latinx, Black/African American, American Indian, and Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander students.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    Ph.D. in Biology or a related discipline and college teaching experience.

    Responsibilities:

    The major responsibilities include the instruction of courses and labs in the biology program.

    California State University Lecturer Salary (Academic Year) Schedules can be found at

    • Range 3
    • Range 4
    • Range 5

    Placement into a range is based on qualifications and experience. Initial assignments are typically at the bottom third of the salary range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
