Economic Development Director Salary: $76,858 - $121,096 Department: Economic Development Position Status: Full-time FLSA Status: Exempt Job Summary The Economic Development Director manages and oversees all economic development related functions for the City of Perry. The Director actively directs all traditional economic development activities for the City (business retention and business recruitment) while providing managerial oversight of the City’s Downtown, Events, and Marketing functions. The Director, as a Department Head in a very visible role with the City, is present and involved in the Perry community and represents the City in various capacities. Essential Tasks Development and implementation of robust business retention and business recruitment programs and initiatives. Represents the City as the primary liaison between the City and the business community. Implementation of initiatives that foster an attractive and advantageous business environment in Perry. Research and deployment of all available economic development tools, strategies, programs, etc. that can assist current Perry businesses, prospective Perry businesses, or cultivate an advantageous business environment in Perry. Oversight of the Perry Downtown Development Authority Board, Perry Industrial Building Authority, and Perry Special Events, along with assigned staff persons. Possess the ability to cultivate strong, beneficial relationships with said boards and staff persons. Development of proactive and comprehensive strategies that favorably position the City of Perry for economic development, tourism, etc. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for Position Demonstrated knowledge of economic development and community development principles and best practices. Ability to conduct oneself professionally at all times and represent the City in a favorable manner. Ability to effectively identify and utilize technology, current and emerging, as necessary. Knowledge of pertinent local, state, and federal economic development programs and how to best deploy said programs in Perry. Ability to work effectively individually or in collaborative situations. Affable personality with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships and garner trust amongst within the Perry business community. Ability to direct and adhere to City policy pertaining to economic development and ability to effectively ascertain what is in the best interest of the City as it relates to economic development projects. Ability to effectively manage and develop subordinate personnel. Supervision Received and/or Exercised Position serves at the pleasure of Mayor and Council and reports to City Manager and Assistant City Manager. Position supervises staff as assigned. Work Environment Work is generally performed in an indoor office environment. Business site visits, as well as night meetings and travel, are required and frequent. Minimum Qualifications A bachelor’s degree in planning, economic development, business administration, or related field from an accredited college or university is required. Three (3) or more years’ experience working in an economic development-related field. Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience.
