Position Description Network Specialist I: $28.73 - $34.94 Network Specialist II: $32.19 - $39.14 Under supervision, provides technical expertise, support, management, and administration of networks, servers, databases, PCs and applications in a Microsoft/Cisco network environment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Network Specialist I This is the entry level position for the Network Specialist series. The position requires a foundation in technical computer skills and systems. The position requires strong oral and written communication skills; ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels; ability to quickly adapt, learn and apply new skills; ability to provide IT related customer and computer support. The Network Specialist I will demonstrate an aptitude and work ethic that is well suited for a multi-tasking, fast paced environment. Network Specialist II This is a journey level technical position requiring knowledge of, and prior job experience with Microsoft and/or CISCO enterprise production environments. The Network Specialist II will provide support and administration of networks, servers, and databases, along with related equipment and software. Position Description Network Specialist I: $28.73 - $34.94 Network Specialist II: $32.19 - $39.14 Under supervision, provides technical expertise, support, management, and administration of networks, servers, databases, PCs and applications in a Microsoft/Cisco network environment. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Network Specialist I This is the entry level position for the Network Specialist series. The position requires a foundation in technical computer skills and systems. REQUIREMENT(S)/MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S) A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university; and two (2) years of full-time paid systems implementation experience in either: 1) installing, configuring, maintaining, performance tuning, patching, troubleshooting and securing enterprise level servers and networks; or 2) planning, configuring, and implementing enterprise systems and applications operating over large computing networks serving local and remote facilities; or 3) preparing programs by analyzing specifications developed by systems professionals and determining computer processing requirements, systems and/or programming flowcharts, code programs, and software solutions; or Two years of full-time paid experience with the City of Los Angeles as a Programmer Analyst; or Four years of full-time paid systems implementation experience with the City of Los Angeles as a Systems Analyst with experience in either 1) installing, configuring, maintaining, performance tuning, patching, and securing enterprise level servers; or 2) planning, configuring, and implementing enterprise systems and applications operating over large computing networks serving local and remote facilities. PROCESS NOTES Additional full-time paid experience as described above in Requirement No. 1 may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required bachelor's degree noted in Requirement No.1. One academic year is equivalent to 30 semester or 45 quarter units.Some positions may require a valid California driver's license. Candidates may not be eligible for appointment to these positions if their record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation (such as DUI).
