DESCRIPTION THE AGENCY The Alameda County Library provides library services from ten libraries in the cities of Albany, Dublin, Fremont, Newark and Union City and the unincorporated communities of Castro Valley and San Lorenzo. Additional services are provided through Mobile and Outreach Services, Education and Literacy Services, and Social Justice Services. The County Library was established in 1910 and is governed by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. The Alameda County Library Advisory Commission advises County Librarian and the Board of Supervisors on library services. The County Library is funded primarily by local property taxes, with additional revenue from State grants and contracts with cities for additional open hours and services. The Board of Supervisors allocates a portion of a utility users and business license tax which is collected only in the unincorporated areas of the County to the Library for service to the unincorporated areas. THE POSITION Under the general direction of the Deputy County Librarian or the Library Division Director , assumes staff advisory responsibility for the development and coordination of library service programs. Librarians IV are responsible for the system-wide services in a specialized area and/or to a specific service population. Online Services Coordinator Under the direction of the Division Director: Library Logistics, coordinates and manages the Alameda County Library’s website and electronic resources (eResources). Leads initiatives to enhance the library’s online presence, ensures accessibility, and integrates digital offerings with physical library services. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Either I Experience: The equivalent of two years' full-time experience as a Librarian II, having developed expertise relevant to the position. Or II Experience: The equivalent of 18 months full-time experience as a Librarian III, having developed expertise relevant to the position. Or III Experience: The equivalent of one-year full-time experience as a Supervising Librarian I in the Alameda County classified service (non-classified includes District Attorney’s Office, Hospital Authority, and the Consolidated Courts), having developed expertise relevant to the position. Or IV Education: Possession of a master's degree in library science or public administration awarded by an accredited college or university, And Experience: The equivalent of three years' full-time, responsible professional library experience, having developed specialized knowledge in a particular field or the equivalent of three years’ full-time program experience in a professional environment. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process. An oral examination which will be weighted as 100% of the candidates' final examination score. The oral examination will be administered virtually and may contain situational exercises.
